Posts: 3480 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hi everyone.. I have a reel seat that is loose on the rod. The reel and the whole mount twist on the rod. Cork on both sides of the mount stays put. Any easy fix or is this rod done? Any chance that fenwick might need to deal with it? Thanks Steve

Posts: 4266 | If the whole thing is spinning, and it's a new rod or even a couple of years old, contact the retailer and see if he'll cover it or if it has to go back to Fenwick. There is no quick fix. Beav

Posts: 665 Location: Twin Cities, MN | I have the same problem with my Eagle GT I bought last year. Check out www.fenwickfishing.com. Depending on the rod, you might have a limited lifetime warranty, or a 5 year, either which means you can return for a new one for shipping only. pal

Gary's Custom Rod & Reel in Coon Rapids can repair it like new, he did one of my St Croix for about $15. He also builds some great musky rods at a very good price. Every time I take something in for repair I end up ordering a new custom rod, it's a sickness. ph 763 427 0631

Posts: 71 | There is a fix! I had this problem on a rod some time ago and simply could not afford to replace it. Drill a one-eight inch hole in the side of the reel seat and fill generously with crazy glue. Drill only trough the plastic seat , not the blank. Also be careful not to get it on the reel seat or you will have problems running the nut down. The rod in question continued to perform for years but it is semi-retired now, I now have fancier stuff. Posts: 494 Location: midwest | Yeah petty much what Griz619 said, but I would use epoxy or more specifically flex coat brand 5 minute epoxy. One more thing, try drilling 2 holes in the reel seat (one for ventilation) and inject the epoxy with a basting syringe. The reason for the second hole is the same when foam filling a jake or grandma, it allows the product to fill the chamber while air escapes and also helps with the drying process. The epoxy is available at cabelas Item:IG-311398.

Posts: 190 | You actual need 3 holes. One in the middle and one at each end. Generally most rod companies use 2 -3 arbors under the reel seat to support it. If you just drill one you are only glueing that one section. I would use the flexcoat as well, but thin it with couple drops of acetone, this way it works itself around. Where are you located? I could do it for you, I'm a rod builder. Also if that doesn't work, I could always rebuild the back end of the rod if you do not want to retire it. Chris

I went back to fenwick. They replaced the rod with a brand new HMX, so I am happy there, but to be honest, I hate the newer version of the rod. It's heavier, and it does not load up as well as the older version that was smaller in diameter. The thing is like a pool cue. If anyone has an older HMX that is in Like-new condition and would like to trade with me for a newer version of the rod, I would be open to it. The one I would like is smaller in diameter at the butt end, the HMX is in yellow. 7'-0" 3/4-3 oz lures. Please call me at (612) 325-3158 and leave a message. I am rarely at a computer to check anything at all. If it helps, I am up in the walker area if anyone out there is interested in a straight trade. Steve
