Posts: 238 | I have a question for you serious, die-hard muskie guys who have experience fishing in Canada. A friend and I have a 1 week trip to Canada planned this year so I will be purchasing a 1 week fishing license. My reservation at the resort is Sat afternoon thru the following Saturday morning. It's my impression that a 1 week fishing license will allow us to fish on 1 of the saturdays, but not both. During our previous trips we usually fish from 7am until 10:30pm each day. I'd like to be able to fish as much as possible on the Saturday I pick to fish so I'm trying to decide which Saturday to choose. The resort doesn't let us in until mid-afternoon so if we arrive early we'd have to leave our gear in the truck. We'd have to do the same if we decided to fish after we checkout. If we fish the day we leave I think our motivation will be weak after spending a hard week on the water - might even be tempted to not fish that day. So, I'm leaning toward trying to arrive in Canada as soon as a bait store will sell us a license first thing in the a.m. If we do this we will likely need to pull an all-nighter on the road. We're both pumped to fish hard, but if we drive all night will we be too burnt out right off the bat? Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on this? D2Bucktail

Posts: 40 | If you are in Ontario, it is an eight day license. Here is the link to the regs: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/mnr/pubs/fishing/fishRegs/2005/Info_fr2006... Good Luck

Posts: 1430 Location: Eastern Ontario | Wow that's news to me, they must of just started it this year. I've been getting my clients licenses for 6 years and always been 7 days. I still have a pile of forms from last year on my desk, I guess I will have to get new ones for this year. But you could set a start time like 3 PM on the first Saturday letting you fish untill 3 PM the next Saturday. Good luck,

Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on this? D2Bucktail Last year I hit the Ontario opener with a guy who's never fished Canada before. We drove 10 hours to get there, arrived at about 4 a.m., and pulled into the nearest baitshop in Nestor Falls where a half-dozen other rigs were parked waiting to buy a license when the store opened around 6. We didn't sleep much in the car (not enough room) and so were basically going on zero sleep the next day, but put in a full 12 or 13 hours on the water the next day, and kept that up for the rest of the week. If you typically don't have a problem fishing long days, it shouldn't be an issue for you. The rush of getting on the water up there should be plenty to pull you through that first day. -d

| I've been to Canada the last three years and since I didn't plan on keeping any fish, had always bought a 7 day Conservation license. It cost me about $17.00 American. I was unaware of the 8 day one too. | |||

Posts: 128 Location: ontario canada - Well Anderson Indiana now | I would suggest giving the mnr a call and getting your license taken care of over the phone. Typically every year as I bring my wife to Canada and I need to get her a non-resident license they are all sold out. I'm not sure where you're heading but I know that in Eastern Ontario we usually have to hit about 5 different places before we can find the elusive non-resident license. This year we're doing it by fax for sure! We usually get the annual license but I would assume that if you got the weekly one you could request a certain time frame for it to be issued. Best of luck and have an Alexander Keith's (beer) for me! Doug

| Yes....they ARE 8 day licenses this year! I have never had a problem getting a non-resident license. If you get there Sat. morn., you can fish ALL DAY the first Sat., through the following Saturday. Just my 2 cents worth! Donnie | |||

| Seaman, Must be due to most of the people fish the east side of Ontario are residents, and they have very little traffic maybe? I have been going to Vermilion Bay for 21 years, and there are two or three local places right in town, that sell licenses. Calling would be a good idea for sure. Donnie | |||
