Posts: 929 Location: Rhinelander. | I am trying to establish what it would mean to an angler in dollars if he were to catch the new world record muskie. I have to go by just an average guy catching it. I realize that value could be more depending on market value od person catching it. I have sent out many letters to try an get a figure from companies what they would be willing to pay for edorsements and checking other possable income to be gotten from it. If you have any suggestions please let me know. So whats your guess, say over the first 3 years of being caught what could the lucky angler make off it? There are only a few companies out there that are capible of even offering some sort of cash reward for something like this. It wouldn't be very much. Sure you might get some free lures, free rods, free reels, etc... but it is not going to worth very much

Posts: 32924 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The new World Record Muskie actually will be worth some serious coin to the angler lucky enough to put her in the net if he or she knows how to properly market the event. The exclusive story is undoubtably desirable for the major fishing publications, sports programs, and other media sources. Endorsements will bring in some money as well. The show circuit could generate a living for a few years; the mount on display would be a serious draw. Properly marketed, long term, I'd say one could do very well. Of course, that's not why I fish either. But if I put that fish in the Frabill, I'd be VERY happy and would benefit financially, there's not a single thing wrong with that.

Posts: 5874 | I agree with Steve. I believe the person could make a good bit of coinf on this fish. While there may only be a few companies that could/would pony up actual cash, it would only take a couple. Some of the bigger boat companies, and the motor comapanies have pretty big marketing funds, and if you had the right boat and motor, you could see some endorsement dollars there. Not to mention a boat and motor deal! Plus, depending on the lure and line used, there is some potential there. I would say that the lure maker could be looking at a windfall. The current world record replica still draws a crowd wherever it is displayed at sportshows across the country. And I would expect lots of Muskie clubs would pay the going rate to have the record holder speak for their club. There's lots of those. As mentioned, magazines, and TV would pay for the "Exclusive". With the right marketing approach, I could see the new WR Muskie be worth quite a bit to the lucky(?) person who catches it. Steve's already doing the marketing part for Frabil! hehehe

Posts: 1168 | Could be worth some decent coin. As Steve put it, if it is marketed in a crafty manner. On the other hand, would the coin made wouldn't cover the anguish put on you by how much that fish would be scrutinized. Personally it wouldn't be worth that much. I'd still fish for them anyway and get excited catching a low 30's fish as much as I would an upper 40's to 50 inch class fish.

There is a standing offer by the owner (s) of the Moccasin Bar in Hayward of 100K if Mr. Spray's record is broken. That could be just the beginning in my opinion. If you could market it for only that 100k for 10 years, well, there's the million dollar mark that everyone likes to throw around. I would think there is a lot more to be had than that though... Todays society demands value, if you clean up well and can speak - that's going to add a lot of value to your product. Nobody is going to just throw money at you because you broke the record eh'. If you sit on your a$$, then it might only be worth a couple beers and a slap on the back. However, if you can deliver the goods, it might be one of the hardest ways to make that easy money your dreaming of.

I'm sure you could have your own graphite replica made for 0.2% of that cost ($500). I dunno... I just don't see a market for the next world record.

Pfeiffer you got to be kidding, they got cars back in 1949 for those fake ones. The type of truck you would you be driving would depend on who was the highest bidder. Book and boat deals would pay well, Brats, beer, sunblock you name it and it's possible. Consider how Dettloff has made a career off of a fake fish he had nothing to to do with the catching of? Big bucks if you make the right contacts. Just who did you talk too anyway?

These days it is all about how you handle it. It could be a lifetime of endorsements or a quick buck for the skin mount. If the person who catches it is bluegill fishing, then it might be a different value than some big name musky hunter ![]()

Speaking of the mount, the last thing you would want to do is sell that one of a kind beast for a quick buck, even $250,000. Sorry jason, a repilica isn't the real deal and a smart cookie would retain the rights to the castings. Now a limited addition signed and numbered graphite replica made from the orginal castings would certainly have interest, maybe include a few feet of line it was caught with too? The $ amount possible is all in how it's packaged and delivered, or not.

Posts: 829 Location: Maple Grove, MN | I think it could be a cost and not a reward. If I caught a WR, it would almost certainly be on one of my favoriite baits because thats mostly all I throw these days. Then everyone else would want that bait too and the guy who makes them would have so many orders he'd never get to go fishing at all. And, of course, I'd never get a chance to go fishing with him again. He's a great guy to fish with too and has forgotten more about fishing than I'll ever know. So, I'd just let the fish go. ![]() Edited by Herb_b 6/20/2006 8:49 AM

It would depend on how much of a "whore" the angler is who caught it. Not near what a Bass or whitetail could bring in, but could have potential!

if it were me, in most cases, i'd be the pimp, not the whore...i'll explain no matter the bait, i would say i got it on something i made myself, like a special bucktail or something. self explanatory... now, if my ketchup bottle bodied buddy was still whittling baits in a barn somewhere in minnesota instead of selling hisself to the highest bidder in Vegas on the weekends, i might consider saying it was on a 1 of 2 walleye colored topwater bait that Jonesi sold me last year. But since Jonesi did hook me up recently i'd tell everyone i raised her in the morning on a Mojo weagle but had to employ special tactics with my homemade bucktail.. ![]()
