Ok, this happened to us alot today throwing gliders, Mr. Automatics if you need to know, we kept getting hot follows that just wouldn't commit in the figure eight! I guess my question really is, what do you guys do when working a glider and have a follow up to boatside?

I know this is an old gag, but...you were fishing for males, that is why they would not commit.

As the glider approaches the boat, I give it a strong 'pop' downward, and watch the bait glide down a few feet. I get quite a few to commit on that finish I'm convinced I wouldn't get on an 8. They usually hit it just as it stops.

By the way, the positive thing about that finish is you can pop it back up and continue into an 8 if the fish doesn't take the lure. Sometimes I get the fish to hit after popping it downward a couple times. I like gliders that will work that way, Undertakers, Wabulls, Perkettes, and whatever the new prototype bait Beav is building. There are several others too, you get the idea.

When you say a "pop" downward are you saying that you have your rod tip a few feet down into the water when you do this?
