Posts: 4266 | Too bad it's not sunny when you want it to be. It just doesn't capture the effect. These are some chromies that I did today, and 2 Rainbow Trout that you can barely see at the top. The bellies on the trout are silver white, which gives you some ides what the chrome looks like. Beav Who was asking for the Chrome Crappie? Posts: 5874 | I saw the chromies that Beav has on Saturday, and they look awesome. And the one he with the diamond dust was real cool. It's amazing how in the shade, they look like another paint job. But the sun really wakes them up! Nice seeing you, Beav.

Posts: 4266 | U2 Shep. We'll have to go get the paint ripped off of those things one of these days. Beav

There is an awesome effects paint company named Spaz Stix, Inc. which offers a Mirror Chrome paint for airbrush application. It is very expensive ($9/oz. or $125/pint) but does produce a very high quality chrome effect and is relatively easy to apply and work with. Have you tried it? Here's their website: http://www.spazstix.com/index.php Your chromies look outstanding! Now, how about some topwaters in chrome! Gale

Posts: 4266 | Thanks, but no thanks. I'll stick with the guys that actually asked us questions as they developed it so that it would be more compatible with lure making processes. I don't mind the extra time. What we use takes lots of time and several layers, but the quality and durability is what we were looking for. I won't discuss the price, other than to say, now maybe some guys understand why lures cost $30 and $35. Not a bottle of Createx water-based, is it?

I've not used their mirror chrome paint yet. But I have used several of their other effects paints and was blown away by the quality and ease of use. I've put their products under auto clear coat and envirotex lite when building topwater lures and have not had any durability problems. However, I have never tried testing thier durability on subsurface lures. Just to be clear, I didn't mean to stomp on your post in any way. I was just throwing out an option to the basement lure makers out there. The more guys experimenting, the faster we'll all advance.

Posts: 4266 | I mean no disrespect, but this wouldn't be the first time that a non-registered user jumped into a hot topic with a tip for another site and just so happened to be affiliated with the site that he's trying to lead us to. If you are affiliated with such a site, simply say, "I too have a business that handles products like you guys are talking about. Take a look." We don't snub anybody, but being non-registered always will raise a flag. 2,497 other people might not agree, but I know from other experiences that it happens. Also, the fact the the people that Stan and I are working with went above and beyond any business that I ever dealt with. I'm sure if it wouldn't have involved lots of travel, they would have had Stan and I out there working on things together in their lab. By this time next year, I'm sure that there will be more effects and more chromes and a host of other things to use because automotive paint people are beginning to recognize muskie lure makers as a viable source of income. It was nice to deal wth people who actually fished, because they understood our concerns about durability and what it would take to make such a product. It's one thing to paint a car, be it a real one or a model car. But the time that was put into the project and it's known and unforseen problems showed real caring and thought and dedication by the team that worked with the two of us. Beav

Posts: 1207 Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | Well said Beav, I don't knock other companies products but when you have a company that works with you religously to help develop a product that will suit your needs and without charging you extra for their experimentation like most big companies will, well, you just have to stick with the company that has that kind compassion for their clientel. That fits into the same compassion catagory that Beav and I have for our painting and quality for our clientel. I'm not against trying new stuff but at this point in time, I for one, will remain with the products that we have now. Beav and I have worked very hard to gain the respect of the great people of this board and we will continue to work hard to keep that respect. If you are sincere, you should register with MF and join this giant family of sportspeople.

Posts: 25 Location: Roseville, MN | My apologies guys. I didn't realize I wasn't logged on - I posted my messages from a different computer and I guess I wasn't recognized when I accessed this site. My name is Gale Oxley. I don't work for any paint or lure company, nor do I paint or build lures for a living - I promise. I like to eat and make my mortgage payments too much - if you know what I mean. I understand why you'd be leary of an unregistered user posting a message about another paint company's product when the two of you have obviously worked hard to get your chrome paint where it is now. For that oversight on my part (not being logged-on), I apologize. Lesson learned and thanks! That said, to leave no doubt whatsoever, my intent was to bring up Spazstix because I knew they had developed a chrome paint which I thought some of the guys on this board might want to try. I felt safe endorsing their products because I've used several of their paints on my lures and had great results. I included prices because I thought I owed it to guys ahead of time to let them know it is costly. My post was made because I truly believe we will all learn faster if more of us experiment and share the results. The more successful experiments, the more we (fishermen) all benefit. And lastly, my post was made in the spirit of what this forum's title announces: Basement Baits and Custom lure painting. I only make a handful of lures each year now. There was a time when I made as many as the winter would allow. It's always been a hobby of mine. Guys who know me can vouch for my love of trying new paint effects and new lure designs. Understandably, my original post caused your wires to get crossed - but hopefully now, you know my intent was well-meaning. For not logging-on, again, my apologies. Sincerely, Gale Oxley WakeMaker Lures [email protected]

Posts: 1207 Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | Hey Gale, Now I know who you are, apologies are more than accepted. No problem. I am still trying to get ahold of my friend ( he has a schedule as busy as mine) and get that info on the item you asked me about. he is a member of the VFW and they will do the 21 gun salute at the funeral today, will get the info from him than when I talk with him. Also, I'm sure that when the circumstances with Beav and his family are settled down that he will let you know everything is ok with him too. Thanks for coming back on this. Stan

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Gale, The paint you have mentioned I heard about one other time from a guy that builds bass lures, he too loves the stuff. Wow, expensive tho! You can also "chrome" your paints with a rattle can of Rustoleum "chrome paint", it does a great job in just a few seconds and will only come off with a belt sander once dry. And of course, you can always use one of my favs, foil! Thanks for the tips! Jed V. Edited by RiverMan 5/20/2006 6:24 PM

Posts: 4266 | I'm back, and everything is cool with me. I tend to agree with Stans opinions about people and other things. He is a wise man. I'm sure that you can see why unregistered people get treated a bit cautiously at times. Many times they are just here to stir the pot. Expensive stuff, hey? That's why the lures cost a bit more. I'd have to agree that all of the special effects that I've used in the last few months are very costly. What's nice is that the guys that helped out Stan and I, tried to keep their costs as low as they could, and also went out of their way to try to find the best way to get the most coverage while using the least amount of product. They have some more things going on in their mad scientists lab right now. I think that they are actually having fun with it, and commented last time that I talked to them that they might even try fishing some day. I primed all of the Perka bodies that I have left today, so I'll be busy again. If anyone wants to request any custom Perkas or any chroming, send me an e-mail and I'll get the process started.
