| I'm curious to know how the makers of the weagle feel about all these knockoffs being made with the same exact shape and probably wieght that I see on Ebay? I think this is very sad that people would steal someones bait. I'm not trying to offend anyone or upset anyone but I think its kind of low for someone to do that. Do other feel the same way, I can't imagine how the makers feel. Maybe I'm wrong, but if you desinged a bait and put tons of time into it and someone came along and copied it exactly it may upset you. Hit em hard. | |||

| As the former maker of the bait it's tough to say as the Weagle was just a larger copy of other lures like it. I had more of a problem with the exact design copy including things like the white dot on the head that made of different and then trying to sell it as a "Weagle". That bugged me... the same size and shape was flattering more than anything. I guess I don't fault people for trying to make a buck when they were so called "hard to get"... I'm sure the copies are nice baits but only one Weagle will ever be made.... | |||

Location: WI | 75% of the baits out there are just a rip offs of other baits with slight mods. I did try one of the ebay Weagle knock offs and was way better than any weagle I have ever thrown.

| In the last 80 years, exactly how many truly original lure designs have been introduced? MAYBE a dozen. Virtually everything is an imitiation, modified however slight or significant. Heck, even the Weagle, in all it's greatness, is just an oversized, heavy Heddon Spook....add it to the ranks of every other walk-the-dog lure ever made. | |||

Posts: 2378 | Musky baits will forever be ripped off. There are just a limited number of styles that one can work with in this game. The Weagle itself is somewhat of a ripoff in that it is a WTD topwater...many of them out there. But at the same time there are a few things that set it apart from all the others. What does irritate me to no end is the makers with similar, or not even close, baits that use the name Weagle to draw attention to their baits on Ebay or elsewhere. Really wanna get me fired up? Bash my bait in your Ebay listing...(cough) Homewrecker (cough). Thankfully the TT guys were nice enough to stop that. If you want to make a bait that is similar or an exact copy, fine. Nobody can sttop you. Just market it on its own merit. Dont attempt to capitalize by bashing or riding the coattails of another bait. Just show a little respect.

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The fact that very few really original designs have hit the market in about 80 years coupled with the fact that a bait design isn't protected very well by law. It's BRAND that matters, and the Weagle developed that brand through this website and others, almost exclusively, locking in the name as synonomous with big muskies and radical and sometimes a bit odd company behavior. MOJO should be able to retain the brand loyalty and improve the company image, if that's the marketing plan. What's a spoon hook? Mud Puppy? Zara Spook? Daredevill? Eddie? Teddie? Reef Hawg? Suick? Heddon Vamp? Heddon Vamp Splashtail? It wasn't the all out amazing wonder of the lure design that made it hot, it was the marketing. If lots of good fishermen throw a well designed lure where there are big fish, it's pretty much a lock big fish will be caught. Yes, the Weagle and Wabull are unique in the size, but they were in the early days also unique in that no two ran exactly the same. Is that bad? Wasn't for me! The lure brands that stand the test of time and all the perfectly legal and perfectly acceptable immitations are those that are marketed well to a loyal buyer over time.

Posts: 5874 | I don't care how many copys there are. I got to throw the original prototype Weagle at the first Cass Lake outing. Dull hooks, and goofy purpleish/gold sanded off color and all! Ain't nothing compares to that bait! Edited by Shep 5/16/2006 12:05 PM

| I would only buy the original of any bait out there. Dont take much to copy a good design\weight set up. What really get me is when A larger MFG. copys from someone they had dealing with My sons design was stolen and copy too. After a long battle this is no longer happening, {Not that I'm aware of} I think it just in poor taste and will do more harm than good to the copy cat. {Bad P R is hard to reverse} MDL | |||
