I am trying to set up my rod holders for trolling. I just bought the Bert's Custom Tackle system with the Down East Double Clamp. Having second thoughts.... My gunwales are about 1/4 inch too narrow for the entire track to be supported. It will work, but I don't know that it is the "best" setup. I was thinking about mounting a 30" section of SS rail and using the Down East Rail mount.

What to you guys think, would a rail be strong enough to withstand the loads over time? Needs to handle speed trolling.

Either way, I am a little skeptical about drilling into my glass gunwales...

I would forget about the rail clamps. Not because the rails might not be strong enough but because over time and because of the great pressure from speed trolling the clamps will losen on the rails and may even scratch your glass.[:(]
