Location: Appleton, Wi | I am switching my 617VS from a 12 volt trolling motor system to a 24 volt trolling motor system. The new motor calls for 6 gauge wire and 50 amp breaker. The boat is wired with 6 gauge wire, but only a 40 amp breaker. Looking in the manual they talked about orange and white cable wires what is up with these wires and where are they? Do I need to use them or can I hook it up using the cables from my 12 volt system (red and black)? Do I need to change the breaker ? Any help is appreciated! |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If the boat is wired for 24 volt through a Marinco system, there should be two sets of wires. One would be labeled battery one, the other battery two, or the two sets will be somehow color coded. The system is 12 volt selected or 24 volt selected through the plug.
If the wiring is comprised of just one set of two wires, you are set for 12 volt. |

| If you have just two 6 ga. wires running from the battery compartment to the bow, you will be just fine. But it sounds like you have 4 wires, and the 24 voltis is jumpered at the plug. Are all four wires connected at the recepticle? This should be covered in the Ranger User Manual. Call if you need assistance.
You be able to get away with the 40 amp breaker, unless you run 100% on a low charge.
