Where do you folks stow your net while trailering? if you have something special in the boat rigged up for this, please include pictures.
Thanx,
Rob

I have a specially rigged butt seat on the front deck that I sling it over. Works perfect. Sorry, no pics at work. But if you do have a butt seat, just fling that dude over it. Stays just fine.

I just put the big Frabill in the bottom of the boat. It has never taken flight and never will. No special storage requirements are needed.

I do the same as DJS, just lay it in the bottom of the boat. I don't collapse my handle, so it doesn't lay flat. The handle rests on my raised deck while the base is towards the back of the boat. Lots of trailering, never a problem.

I lay mine on the boat floor, then put my measuring board and Pro seat over it. I've never lost a net that way, but did have a net fly out of the boat once and sink before I could get back to it. Minutes later, my brother had to hand-land a 39.5" Tiger for me. Luckily I had a spinnerbait on, and not something with a bunch of trebles.

Tied down to the bed of my truck. Getting a little more confident slinging it over the passenger seat in the boat, though.

on the floor

if I'm going a ways or its a rough road, I might put a tackle box or butt seat in the net or pin it into a position where it won't flop too much

I agree with the front butt seat or floor.
You know your driving habits and if you would need to lock it down.
I have a buddy you once in a WMT put his Big K standing on edge leaning against the back deck. I say once b/c it was never found...

I put mine on the floor in between my two front seats(driver and passenger) that way if it did try to fly away it would get caught underneath the seats. I've never had a problem.

Ha, I am telling you, the big beckman CAN go somewhere because it DID. I know it sounds stupid, I was in as much shock as anyone when we launched the boat and it was mysteriously gone. I don't know how it flew out, I think it may have been the net cover catching air?? Either way, I either put the boat cover on now or put something #*^@ heavy on top.

It travels on the floor under the rear casting deck of my Tuffy Esox Magnum, without incedent. I park my rig where I can watch it at gas stations or restaurants. There is much more danger of the net growing legs at stops!

Musky Brian,

I think your last post explains why it left the boat. And I think you're right, the net cover was the cause. Without that, there's not a whole lot for the wind draft to hit in order to launch it out of the boat. I lost a cooler out of my boat last year. Like you, I was shocked when I went to my boat to find it missing. It was a little too light after a day on the water. Should have brought it in the truck instead of leaving it in the boat like I had done every other time!

A couple of things here.... nobody's ever heard of a bunggy cord??? butt seat as opposed to????????? head seat?????
I gave my buddy a net w/cover as a gift. He leaves chicago during a friday rush hour and he's barely out of cook county when he calls me on the cell and says he lost the net. He now thinks that the guy waving at him on I-90 near river road was trying to tell hime something....DUHHH. Four hours later after I get off work I just have to go and see if the net is crushed and shreaded somewhere on the road. I found it alright. First I found the cover with only 2 small abraisions, still very servicable....now where's the net. Four passes later I find the net on the right shoulder of the opposing lanes. The net w/o the cover had gone airborne, over 6' chainlink fence, two sets of train tracks (cta blue line) another 6' fence and must have gotten knocked around across 4 more lanes of chicago traffic until she came to rest on the right shoulder of the inbound lanes. The net....well, the handle flat as can be. the hoop some road rash but maintained its integrity, the yolk, road rash too but surprisingly in great shape after obviosly haveing seen the undersiede of someones goodyears, the bag lost the top row of mesh due to abraision but still firmly attached to the hoop. A pair of cutters to trim the top row of the bag and a replacement handle and my buddy is back in business. He calls me when he arrived at Vermillion after stopping at Gander Mtn t buy a new net. I tell him to keep the net dry and return it on the way home beacuse I found his and I was sending him mine with a second group of guys going north. Recovering the net was quite a surprise in itself. The brand you ask..... the bag was a frabill and the rest was beckman. They both performed well. Who makes the better "net" hard to say. Beck-bil???... Fra-man????And yes I do own the "twin??" to that bastard hybrid net I preferred the frabill hoop/handle and the beckman bag....Had to do something with the leftovers.....
Can you tell its a slow night at work....
Later,
Karl

If when are trollling it goes on the front deck opened over the foot pedal for the trolling motor.

If we are casting it is on the main floor opened and ready! for when we get to the spot!

My Net story had a very happy ending....The next day on a chicago based fishing site someone comes on a forum and says they found a musky net, without saying where or what kind or anything. Get ahold of the guy, he found it on I-88 about 3 hours after It must have fallen out...The guy stops his car, gets out and grabs it from the shoulder...The thing is in like mint condition, unbelievable

Many people these days are very cynical. But If you approach with an open mind you will often be surprised at peoples honesty. There are still many people with morals out there who arent afraid to let them show. Last week I brain farted and left $100 in the change machine of the self checkout lane at the grocery store. I called for that shot in the dark and the clerk said a customer turned it in and I got my hundo back. Since I wont ever know who it was to thank them all I can do is someday pass on the good will.

I nearly lost my net once going down the road. Luckily it caught on my down-east rodholder as it was going out. Now I just sit my spare battery on top of my net.
