| i asked them last night when the results would be out, and was told the forms are taken to madison "right away" and the DNR guy hoped they'd have results up on their website within a day. | |||

Posts: 285 Location: NE Wisconsin | Someone form the Pelican Lake Assc. was at the Forest Co. meeting. He talked a very different story. He said , now, the lake assc. was AGAINST the proposal. Don't know the vote, but judging from some of the comments from the "good ol' boys", I may have been the only one who voted for it!!!! John Aschenbrenner

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I brought it up at Wood last night, in addition to the other Musky regs, and the trout proposal. I got a warm vibe from the folks at our meeting last night, and hope it went well in the other counties too. the new ballot system coulb be good or bad. One used to be able to sway others to raise their hands. Now, someone could say one thing and vote another way. Hopefully the law of averages works out, and most people were for it.

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | The thing I didnt like about the ballot system was that any input from the public was pretty much a non issue because people came in pretty much knowing how they were going to vote. With the raise of hand type method other people's views could be expressed which could sway fence sitter voters. I do think that it helped speed things along. Overall I feel the decisions should be left up to the proffessionals with the actual education and real knowledge of a fishery, not the views of us "general" public. I feel that public input is great, but the changes to regulation that are going to effect the fisheris future should be left up to the proffessionals. Mike

| If a fence sitter saw a show of hands, they'd be more likely to go with the majority than vote with thier own thoughts. This way people vote with thier heads, not thier hands. I liked it. The vote I attended had more guys asking questions about where Pheasant Stamp money would go than anything else. | |||

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I to agree with Pointer on this. It really upset me to see some of these guys vote no before they even know anything about it and why they have propsed some of the things they did. I think that they need to vote after everyone has heard the comments and know what the reasoning is behind proposing the idea. Edited by Merckid 4/11/2006 11:51 AM

| You guys are nuts. The reason most people don't go to those meetings is why go listen to people debate (if you can call it that, more like shouting matches), topics you either A) know how you want to vote for or B) or care less about. Allowing people to vote and leave is the best thing that ever happened to those meetings. Maybe more people will actually vote now. And as far as leave it in the hands of the professionals...it already is. This votes are non-binding, just public opinion feelers. The professionals can still do whatever they want after the vote. Maybe one thing they could add to the ballots would be a "no opinion" place to check questions where you have no opinion. Most people go to those things to vote on one or two key issues for them not sit there an entire evening and listen to people argue about whether or not there should be a feral cat season. | |||

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | I agree with the "no opinion" option. I think it is really lame if people dont go because of "debating" yet when the rules are set these same people that dont go and voice their opinion are the first to open their mouth and complain about the decision made. I am glad I went and voted. I would also like to commend the guys that brought the whole Pelican Lake proposal up, Norm Wild, Steve Worrall and I believe one other guy, the name escapes me. Thanks for all your hard work, beers on me sometime when I am up there. Mike

| It might be lame but I think it's true, that and they don't want to be there for 3.5 hours (which some of the ones I've attended did last that long). Not much incentive to come back unless you really care about a specific issue. And in that case no amount of debating is going to change your vote. I hope they saved the deer baiting debate until last this year. I'm sure that was a fun one. Oh and I do agree lots of people that don't go to the meetings will be crying the loudest when they don't like the decisions made. That's definately lame but also seems to be an unavoidable fact of life. | |||
