Location: Fishing the weeds | I recently bought some Bucher Rings and they only come in Chrome/Stainless now. I Started experimenting with different ways to color these rings since the old process that Roberts Outdoor used was discontinued. I had bought some Cold Gun Blue from a sportsmans show a few years back and found this to work pretty good for coloring these new rings. Pour some in a plastic cup drop your rings in and swirl the solution for 10-20 seconds then, drain excess solution back into the bottle and rinse the rings. They come out looking like gunmetal. The solution I use is " Vans Instant Gun Blue" made by C.S. Van Gorden in Bloomer Wiscosin. Thought this might help those guy's that don't like the chrome rings. Pat |

Location: Eden Prairie & Pine Island | Pat, that's a good suggestion, but do you really think the color of the split rings makes a big difference? I must admit that I prefer the old olive drab, but I think its more due to the comfort or tradition feeling it gives me resembling the original Bucher super strong rings. |

Location: Fishing the weeds | I personally don't think it makes a difference but, I was just tinkering and thought I'd try to color them. Some guy's I've talked to prefer the colored rather then the chrome. So, I thought I'd throw that out there.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I used to make the old Bucher rings olive drab at Worth Company. The process was not a paint at all but a chemical reaction to the zinc or nickel plating. Nasty stuff. |
