The majority of us know we don't have an answer, a few masters probably won't offer their opinion and a couple will tell you ALL about the lure that caught them 6 nice fish last season.

ps - a great big honkin' sucker hung gently down on the day before deer season opens MAY be the best muskie bait ever. But that's just what I heard.

I would venture to say that since guys started throwing lures, more muskies have fallen to an in-line bucktail spinner more than any other lure. Simply because it's been around longer that just about anything else.

I would agree with Beaver.........the bucktail has probably shown and caught the most fish.

I will also have to say the bucktail...or marabou or whatever you prefer. In line tails catch fish.

He asked "best" not "most". "Most" would likely be a bucktail with black hair and a silver blade, but that ain't "best".

Well, ain't I right or ain't I wrong?! Hey, he asked. You just gotta think these things all the way thru.

Ranger... accurate as ever! Too funny. The original uncensored version of your post was more on target, but great points.

Are we talking about a category of lures, a specific model, or one in particular... like the Pope doll I'm making into a bucktail. Wouldn't it be "best" if the muskie gods smile and it catches a pig?

In my opinion, having caught the largest Musky on record... a 4 1/2" Rapala is the best lure ever..

The best? Bucktail, by the stats. Why? Because so many people throw them. Make a lure out a white pine cone and have everyone throw it; it would end up being the best. Best for me? A jig. Biggest fish I've ever caught? On a bucktail, a Musky Buster, purple. Here she is, fresh from Lax reproductions.

people have been throwing bucktails forever but a sucker is probably the best. But, I would guess that as of late one of the better baits is the bulldawg!!!

Nice looking repro!

In favor for "ONE" particular bait or category over another is a WAIST of time and boring! If anyone thinks that we can narrow our fishing down to one, "go to bait", (depth) or to one relatively speed, then results will be meager.

The same old tired thinking goes on and on,,, "it's the "bait" that catches the fish",,, "it's the color, it's a NEW bait",, "they haven’t seen this one before",, LOL! Instead of giving credit to where it belongs.

If we as fisherman are ever willing to admit, or realize that it's "where" we put a bait that is WAY more important than a manufactures brand name, or type, or color, action or what ever.... bla, bla ,bla..

The answer to the question is a simple one. It's "A" bait, any bait! used at the right place "depth", moved at the right speed, used at the right time.
Not even the spoonplug will get em all.

How many muskies dose it take to be noticed as a "pro" around here? I fish muskies about ½ the time, is 1100 enough yet?

Suick and Bucktail will be at the top of the list. I believe you can throw in a reef hawg and believer. Its debabable. Bucktails catch the most fish probobly. But people throw them the most too. I'm suprised I haven't heard the "W" word yet.
