For me it's about 75 yds.

Dude, I keep my spools full whether they be 75 or 175....better for casting purposes + as breakage insurance![:sun:]

I normally put about 10 yards of monofilament 10-17# test on first, then tie a not with the 65# PowerPro that I use and put the whole spool of that on. The whole spool is 150 yards and I make sure that I slowly put the line on so there isn't any slipping.

Hope this helps,

I back my spool with mono then the 75 yds of Power Pro to about 1/16 of an inch of the spool rim. Just didn't want you to think I only had 75 yds on a 6500 spool.

I put around 75 yards too of superline with a mono backing. I use 8lb. mono backing. When I go straight mono, I just fill the spool.

David,

Live at the show here in Milwaukee.........

I generally fill half of my spool up with filler line. Cheap, inexpensive line that. I then fill the rest of it with 80 lb. Power Pro. Because the line is so expensive, it doesn't make much sense to fill the whole spool on smaller casting reels. Obviously, if you want to troll with the reel, you will want more line on the spool. Then, the next year, I just change the line from one reel to the next. So it's like new line on the next reel. Works great - saves money!

Similar to the past replies...about 75 yards of mono or old line, and 75 yards of Power Pro. That way I can do four reels with one 300 yard spool.

Me? I tie the PowerPro directly to the spool, put a piece of electrical tape over the line to prevent slippage and spool the whole bloody reel, regardless of size.

The way I figure it, with the amount of money that I spend in a boat, tow vehicle, rods, reels, and lures, the measly little bit of cost for line is minimal. After all, the line is the only thing that connects you to the fish, why go cheap there?

Lol Dave! I'm the idiot who packs his reel w/ expensive line then loses most of it trolling![;)] I started doing the same thing you guys are doing now![:sun:]
