Electric --- can't stand having to keep my foot on the cable control. Do most guys w/ cable control lean on a pole seat?

Here's a REALLY great product we tested last year. I'll have one on my Minn kota PD this year, for sure.

Really makes the foot pedal comfortable, and allows for very rapid reaction to changing wind, waves, current, etc.

For me, the reliability of cable steer out weighs the convenience of electric steer.

The electric steer on my Minkota allows me to let my clients fish from the bow.

That is afterall what they're paying for. I run it all from the back of my boat, which you just can't do with cable.

First Sab Bay outing, a cable steer broke, and it wasn't that old. None of the AP's or PD's had any problems. Now, I know that this is an unscientific assumption, but the reliability factor really isn't much of an issue. I'd say the biggest issues with all trolling motors is the batteries that power them. I've got a 65 AP w/US, it's seen lots of use in 4 years, and it has been a great TM.

If you go with a electric steer just remeber to always take the pedal out of the weather when you are done fishing. They are nice because you have almost 20' of cord and can control the boat from any were in the boat. I had a lot of problems with boards burning up in my foot pedal and it was getting noisy. So once the lower unit burned up i gave it to my trolling repair man and boat an all-terrian.

I use the Minnkota PD 50 12v system and Optima Battery, with the 20' control cable and 54" graphite shaft. I have had this one for 6 years and have been very satisfied. It moves my Tuffy Esox Magnum with ease.
