Posts: 11 Location: Palatine, IL | Hey... I am looking for Castle Rock Lake info. Found some land up there and looking to purchase but I have never fished this lake. But the land is supper cheap with a 3 bed 2 bth mobile home. Its the perfect traveling distance for me from Chicago, about 3 hours. Has anyone had any luck out of that lake? Or is there another lake around there to look at... any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks T

Posts: 605 Location: Marshfield, WI | Hi, I've never fished Castle Rock but here is some lake info on it. http://www.lake-link.com/lakes/lakedetails.cfm?LakeID=7&RegionID=72... Petenwell is just north of there but I have only fished it a couple times. Krishna

But also has a pretty good reputation for fish from my discussions with local anglers, including muskies. I have talked with folk's whom have claimed 50" fish. Have fun! Al

Posts: 8820 | I was under the impression that most of Castle Rock was private and that recreational traffic was pretty minimal. If its anything like Petenwell to the north, it's really not bad compared to places like Madison, Pewaukee, the Fox Chain, etc...

Castle Rock is much busier with recreational traffic than Petenwell. lots of big speedboats running around. there is also significant zebra mussel problems in that water...and they smell when the water level drops. it's been consistently stocked and is underfished, imho. and when it's busy, there are plenty of good options nearby, including Petenwell obviously. Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I live nearby, and it is, as stated above, much much busier than Petenwell to the north. I think there is something like 7 bars on the lake now and the ciggarrette speed type boats have taken hold as quite popular out there, making runs from one to another. That said, there are plenty of areas that the pleasure guys cannot, and one can always find a place to fish. Castle Rock, though not stocked for as long or heavily as Pete, does get some spillover of fish from Pete, and has had fish in it as long as Pete has. Not action water by any stretch of the word, but one has a chance... Better Pike fishing in C.R. than Pete too.

Posts: 91 | If you buy it leave the boat on the trailer and put it in Pete if you're planning to fish on the weekend. I'd never seen a 35 ft cigarete boat on inland waters until I worked for a summer for one of the developers that are getting $300,000 grand for 1 acre lots!! Then I saw allot of them! That lake is a zoo on the weekends and has a very distinct smell most of the summer. If your into racing from bar to bar dodging weekend Skippers, this is the lake for you.

Posts: 11 Location: Palatine, IL | Thanks for all the info, it is not lake front but very close. Prob just will be using it on weekends most of the time. As far as the big speed boats... can't stand them... For just having a 16 ft aluminum (for now), I just am looking to fish, and occassionally anchor and chill with a beer. Thanks T
