We have a Tamarack in PA that's a good muskie lake too. Coincidence, I think not.

CuriousG,

I've heard of the lake, including the muskies, but never fished it. I never heard of it being a great muskie water, but maybe so. If you get serious I can probably provide you with a lake map when I get home next week, just send me a PM. Randy (UPMUSKYR in da UP, eh?) is probably your best scout for the southwestern UP, a kind dude and he knows his local waters.

Try calling Lance at Lucky's Bait Shop outside Iron River. That dude knows LOTS about muskies in the western UP. Fun shop to visit, look for my pic with a 48" (from the Menominee River) on the wall. Second call could be to Randy at Northwoods Outfitters in Iron Mountain, another good source of info. Last, you can always contact the local MI DNR fisheries biologist; I think the big office in that neck of the woods in located in Crystal Falls though there is/was another smaller office in Norway.

Hey Ranger, good to see you on the boards, keep in touch we'll have to get together on the lakes X,Y, and Z this summer. Are you thinking of a U.P. outing? Randy

Yeah that Luckey gut is a real hoot. Last time I was in there he was lighting his cigar with a blow torch. Just mention you are from Wisconsin and sit back and listen. I just let him ramble on about this and that. A real character and if you don't take him too seriously he is good for a few laughs. Gigantic a$$ suckers in the fall as well.

tomyv,
We will have to hook up and do Tamarack and even the Tuning. When they drained Tamarack they didn't re-locate all the musky to Conneaut and Woodcock lakes like the story that was going around. They didn't drain the lake dry. Musky stayed in the deep end that sustained them till the lake refilled. So there are some nice ones still in there.
