| At the 2005 Manitowish Chain tournament, the Wisconsin Muskie Tour announced to the participants a potential new bonus program that would elevate muskie fishing tournaments to the next level, the "Muskie Grand Slam(TM)". At the time of the announcement, the details had not been ironed out, but it was so well received by the anglers that the WMT forged ahead to develop this very special program.
The Muskie Grand Slam(TM) is just as its title suggests. There are four parts, or legs, to the Muskie Grand Slam(TM). If a team should capture the Muskie Grand Slam(TM), they would be taking home an additional $100,000.00 bonus at the 2006 Invitational Championship and earn a ten year WMT tour exemption and a ten year exemption to the coveted WMT Invitational Championship. Future earnings in ten year's time could potentially reach over $4,700,000.00. Earnings for the 2006 season could reach over $250,000.00 for the team that wins the Muskie Grand Slam(TM) at the Invitational Championship, surpassing any one-year earnings for any professional muskie tournament team.
To win the Muskie Grand Slam(TM), a team must complete the following four legs, all in the same season:
1. The team must win a one day WMT qualifying tournament
2. The team must win a two day WMT qualifying tournament
3. The team must win the Lapp Trophy for team of the year
4. The team must win the WMT's Invitational Championship
A team who captures the Muskie Grand Slam(TM) will certainly be at the pinnacle of muskie tournament fishing. Their status as a "tournament pro" could never be challenged and could accomplish what many muskie anglers desire...make a living at doing something they truly love to do..muskie fishing!
