Greetings, I live on the north shore- shallow bay of Wabigoon Lake in NW Ontario. I have come over to the dark side and will chase Muskies for real this summer. With the muddy Wabigoon water presenting zero visibility, what is the favorite bucktail/spinner bait for opening weekend? Mr. Worral- whats the go to bait? All suggestions are appreciated. Glad to be aboard.

In one of the waters that Mr. Worral frequents, and resembles a pot of coffee, my favorite early season buck is a Musky Candy red Blade and black tail. The fish on the left was caught on it.

Thanks, most of the camp boats that toss stuff to the end of my dock appear to be throwing- red or black bucktails or lillytails and bulging them back to their boats. I always curious why we have our favourites and which brand names are preferred. Thanks again. Next time on the 'goon in Lou's bay, stop in for a "beverage" and a story.

My best dark water/ early season tail has been an orange blade, black/white or all white tail Mepps Marabou. I use my split ring pliers to create the colors I want out of the stock Mepps color schemes. The Orange really shows up and the blade has a bunch of thump.

I have started throwing smaller bucktails in the spring and Hayward guide, Jim Stroede turned me onto his springtail bucktail. This tail is a little smaller than most are use to but it is not a small, light, unworkable bait most I have seen. It uses a thick Colorado blade that has an awesome thump along with a fast spin and the weight required to make it castable but not so heavy that it spooks fish in the shallows. I have also a custom double blade model in both sizes and trust me we all need to talk Jim into making these on a regular basis because they are nothing shy of INCREDIBLE. I like these because they use a heavier blade that keeps the bait down, It can be bulged also but I like to run them deep ,that is where they outperform the others for me. It could be that this double blade model is exactly what you need in the darker water, It has put some nice fish in the boat under muddy and stained conditions in my area..........Good luck Doug Jim can be contacted ad www.fishhayward.com or by phone 715/635/7927

You will never go wrong with a chartreuse blade, black bucktail Mepps Musky Killer.

It will probably be top 3 in any colored water situation and you want a confidence bucktail. This would be it.

I would echo exactly what Mr. FSF said. Mepps Musky Killer Chartreuse-Black/Chartreuse is an no brainer stained water bucktail.

You might want to check out these: http://www.kdclures.com

Their fast blades really work well in the spring. They turn very very fast, even while slow rollin'...
