Posts: 280 Location: Pewaukee WI | I personally love using Homeade baits and think the members should be able to post pics, and trade thier baits somewhere on MF. Is this possible Forum Leaders? Edited by Musky_Slayer 1/27/2006 2:32 PM

Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | Alot of us have web sites, and I would trade baits for other basement baits, or some production lures (i'm small enough to get away with that). I'm always open to entertain trades. Trades = more exposure. Edited by muskynightmare 1/27/2006 6:05 PM

Posts: 1438 | I think it's a great idea but do have to add a comment regarding this. I've seen something similar on a different, non-musky related site, but the way it was set up was that the participants in the sell/trade/barter had to pay for it. They received a very reduced rate for the priviledge of "advertising" which consisted of a listing under their login name noting they are a "Custom ----maker". There was also a separate forum where all members were allowed to read and reply but only those listed as "Custom ----makers" were able to start a thread. Basically it was their sales shop, they were able to start a thread in the forum with the items they had to sell/trade and their customers were then allowed to reply. Now there were a ton of other qualifiers there like whether they had their own website, whether their items were commercially available, if they were supplying retailers etc. Don't know that that really applies here. Also, they weren't allowed to post their custom items in the classifieds section either (saves the forum for bogging down). The fee was a yearly fee but not sure how much as I was not a selling part of that forum. I think that the guys here at MuskieFIRST go above and beyond the call in what they have provide free for us here. When asking them to take the time and effort to create something extra, which they've already done once I might add, in order for you to either barter or generate revenue for yourselves, you should expect that there will be some kind of fee associated with it for you to do so. Would anyone be willing to pay for the advertising they recieve here? Steve, what are the stats on the board? Disregard, I found them: Jan 28, 2006 6:30 a.m. User sessions so far today : 78 User sessions yesterday : 1800 User sessions this week : 11280 User sessions this month : 42412 Total users : 2653 These are all "unique" user sessions and do not include "duplicates" if I'm correct, right Steve? Where else would you be able to show your goods to 42k plus people per month for a 5, 10 or 15 dollar a month fee. Just an idea and maybe some food for thought. Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | You're right, M1st is very good to us "basement guys". I also think that the basement guys are also very generious when it comes to donations to this site as well. I know that myself, H20, Beav, Hoosier Handmade and Musky Nightmare donated baits to the latest Kly auction. I think that the system we have works fairly well so long as the bait guys do their part to support M1st. I also think that having M1st be the place where people can find custom basement baits is a draw to this site. I know that I only advertise my baits for sale on this site to the exclusion of all others. Any way that M1st wants to go is fine with me. I just think that the status quo works.

Posts: 169 | Just throwing this idea out..... How about an occasional lure auction with the proceeds going to M1st. Us basement guys could donate a lure or two for support. I'm just thinking out loud.

Posts: 1438 | Point taken Shawn... however, the donations to the Kly Auction are for the expressed purpose of raising money for stocking Okauchee. All of us, including me, donated to further the resources, not for the bottom line of MuskieFIRST or it's representatives. I was looking more for something on the lines of MuskieFIRST being able to buy/upgrade equipment as needed, maintenance and associated fees, web registration fees etc. For example, I know that they've spent a bunch of money over the winter on upgrades to the photo/video editing paraphernalia. I'm not speaking for MuskieFIRST or anyone who works under the OutdoorFIRST banner. I was just throwing an idea out. What I'm thinking ahead on is that as the site grows, and the forums grow (I'm talking specifically about the Basement Baits Forums) where do they draw the line? Someone, somewhere is eventually going to realize that they can sell their stuff here for free. If Bob Schmuck Baits decides he wants to offload 1000 Doohickamabobs on the site and doesn't contribute to the auctions, doesn't post on other forums and is basically here to sell his product, how would you suggest handling that? At that point you can't say well, Beav and Treats are friends of mine and they donated to the Auction so they're free but you're going to pay x amount because you're new here. I'm thinking down the road somewhat I guess. I just saw something that worked elsewhere with handcrafted "art" (they are selling hand crafted/tuned predator/varmint calls that fall somewhere equivalent to the timeframe that it takes to make a bait) and thought it worked kinda slick. As a side note the participants there also contribute their goods as prizes and auction items for site related outings etc. Thing is, I don't even sell my painted baits. I paint and refinish a few and buy from others but don't sell mine, yet. I'm not trying to chase anyone away here. This is an open discussion, let's hear some suggestions. The ultimate decision has nothing to do with me. That's up to Steve, Zach and whoever. But, maybe this is a way to get some ideas on the table so you're not blindsided down the road somewhere. Brad's response is what I was looking for. Scott Edited by theedz155 1/31/2006 3:59 PM

Posts: 4266 | I'm going to talk with Sworrall and see if they would profit by selling my lures in the muskiefirst store. I think that way I can sort of pay them for what I feel is a great deal on free advertising and exposure. Perhaps a basement bait builder store? I'd be willing to sell to Steve for a reduced rate for all that he's done for me. I talked to him about selling on the buy/sell board, and he said as long as I didn't sell in any retail locations, that would be cool. I've sold a few on e-bay, but the only other people throwing my lures learned about them and bought them here. I think it's a great thing that he is doing for us and for the fisherpeople that we sell to. Beav

Posts: 7038 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | A few thoughts here: -we're never going to charge for people to use the Buy/Sell/Trade board -yes, Treats is right: if people support us, we'll support you. -there will be no charge for "support" on the scale that we're talking for basement builders. -if/when we're ready to go full steam with TackleFIRST.com, and you've got inventory, let's connect! In the meantime....What would we like to see? Please tell your friends, your fishing buddies, and your enemies about MuskieFIRST. We are growing constantly, and we want to see the MuskieFIRST community grow bigger and bigger and bigger overtime. These numbers, and the positive community we foster will be what will help OutdoorsFIRST become monetarily successful. So, if you want to help us, here's what we ask for: direct people to MuskieFIRST! More people coming to the site, brings more people to seeing your "basement creations", which brings more interest in your stuff, which brings more numbers to the site.

Theedz How exactly is MF losing money by allowing people to sell thier baits here? They are going to be getting a huge amount of hits(advertising potential) from interested people? MF is a great site and the more reasons it has for people to come here the more money it can make. Thanks for the cool forum.
