Posts: 7105 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Just a quick poll type question....which do you do more, Cast or Troll? and, WHY?

| I cast because I can. If I can move fish casting I will. The fact that I was directly involved with the action / presentation combined with seeing the follows is what does it for me. If weather or other conditions (kids with) dictate trolling, I will then troll. | |||

Posts: 1316 Location: Madison, WI | 60% casting 40% trolling. The guy i normally fish with is a hardcore troller!! But my heart is in casting...

| I cast pretty much 100% of the time. Why? Not sure, just like to cast. Need someone to show me the finer points of trolling. | |||

Posts: 127 Location: NW burbs of Chicago | Not that I have control over which we end up doing, but I personally prefer to cast. Trolling to me feels like cheating. Crash McG

Posts: 7105 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | slamr15: trolling isnt cheating, its just that I'm doing all the work slamr15: this year, you're setting the lines Crash: no way. Crash: i mean, it's basically sitting in the boat, trolling Crash: as opposed to working for the fish slamr15: its actaully pretty difficult, if you do it right slamr15: Saturday we worked hard to get those fish Crash: well, it's kind of boring slamr15: takes a ton of concentration to keep the boat on the right path, and its alot of work to set, and pull, and re-set the lines slamr15: but yes, its pretty boring

Posts: 1086 | <------------------------------ 60% Casting - 40% Trolling Age is going to play h#ll on me as I get older. Many years of competitive downhill skiing has taken it's toll on my body. It's nice to get off the feet every once in a while and take a break from standing and to relax. For me...fish is about relaxing anyway..and trolling really helps support that. Posts: 2378 | I am mainly a caster...mainly because I enjoy it more and I feel like I can present a bait more effectively in this manner. I did work on my trolling alot this Fall though. Didnt boat any fish, but learned alot and I think I will be a more successful troller this year. While it may be boring at times, it is in no way easy if you are going to do it right.

Location: Des Moines IA | 60% Casting, 40% Trolling...... Catching fish casting is the usually the most fun! But after a few hours of casting and not seeing anything, I like to troll, have some lunch, a few beers! And it's not near as easy as it looks. We did pretty good Saturday, not a single crossed line! But it does help to have a few extra hands settin the lines. I look @ trollin like this"just like sittin at the bar, with a chance of a 50" .... and boy do I lke 50's.... and the Bar!!!!!

Posts: 724 Location: Southern W.Va. | Only way that I troll is: 1) I have no say so in the matter. 2) Too drunk to cast, in which case I shouldn't be on the water to begin with, so take me back to the crib and let me sleep it off. Mauser

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | I probably trolled for muskies a grand total of 20, maybe 40 minutes tops in 20 years plus of muskie fishing. I guess that is close enough to 100% to count. A good percentage of my enjoyment is from the fish charging the bait at the boat, as well as all the thousands of points of interest that you can observe while I'm casting, that likely would be missed if I was trolling..

Posts: 2082 | 100% caster - but do admit I have put five fish in the boat trolling (so I guess 97.9% caster???)

Location: Duluth, MN - Superior, WI | I troll when I have my boys. This year I did get them throwing topwater. So I would say casting 80% - 20% trolling. Yes, McGolden it is boring. But when my 4 and 5 year old catch fish it is GREAT!!!! -Corey

| I cast 90% of the time, down from 100% casting historically. Trolling does work under the right circumstances where legal, especially when multiple rods per angler are allowed | |||
