What do you consider to be an underpowered boat? I've got an 1850 Crestliner that has a 65lb. PD. It gets us around OK, but I seem to REALLY have to battle wind even when it's only 10-15 mph. Thanks.

I would consider that under powered. I would upgrade to a motor with more pounds of thrust and maybe a 36 volt sysytem.

last year, I had a very heavy 16' aluminum boat, powered by a 56# Min Kota PD bow mount. I had it hooked up to 2 -12 volt batteries, seperated by a switch. I only had to rely on the second cell on very windy or very long days.

i also have an 1850 crestliner, but its a superhawk. We have an 84 pond thrust and it is perfect. We can get up to 5mph with it on a flat calm day.

have fished out of a tourney series 1850 with a 67lbs motorguide 24v.... much bigger boat, but TM pulled boat better then my much lighter 16' tuffy with a 55lbs 12v tm.. would I say to upgrade? yeah, you can stick with a 24v system, but maybe get something in the 70's or 80's with the thrust..
if you sell that pd, might be interested depending on your price... feel free to pm me if you do

I fish out of a a buddys 18' crestliner it has a 74lb thrust maxxum on it. We never have had a problem with power and we fished up at the peoria lock and dam a lot this past summer in some heavy current. My boat a 16' aluminum jon boat with a 55lb minn kota i've never had any problems, but on a few occasions i've wondered if i was going to have to turn on the outboard. Plus a bigger motor with help you get threw thick weeds easier. I would get at least a 70lb if not 80lb and 24 volt system 36volt may be overkill but it would be there if you need it. And depending on the water you fish a trolling motor about a foot longer than recommend to help with big waves. But like dad would say don't fix what ain't broken.
