Location: Green Bay, WI | Anybody out there fish the Green Bay area for Musky? I am interested in the bay and inland lakes in that area.

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | The only inland lake I know is East Alaska Lake in Kewaunee County. Nice little lake (under 100 acres but very deep), but it does get hit hard.
Haven't spent much time on the Bay myself. |

Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | I'm wondering if East Alaska has any more fish in it. They only planted Tigers, And the last time I was there, somebody thumped one. The DNR stocked those fish in the 80's, and have not planted any since. You coud make the trip up to Caldron and High Falls Flowages. If you want more info on those lakes, call me @920-954-6350.

I am from North Central WI and now live in Florida, but will be moving back to WI within the next 5-6 months. We are considering the Green Bay area, and I wanted to check out the Musky habitat--it's a requirement of any potential new job! Lol...
Incidentally, are there many center console boats being used around that area? I have a Key West 1900CC center console with a 150 Yamaha 4 stroke. The rig is like new with only 30 hours on it, but the fishing here (intercoastal waterways) is quite different and thus the boats are laid out differently. And while I like the concept of a center console for musky fishing, the boat would need to be rigged somewhat differently to fish muskies effectively. But it's a great boat and built like a brick...
Though I have it up for sale online, I was also thinking of maybe keeping it and re-rigging the thing. If I knew that there were people using center console boats around lake Michigan, this would be a safer bet in case I decide to sell it later.

Location: Green Bay, WI | It is a comfortable enough boat, but will need to have some pedestal seats installed to be functional. I already had the raised bow rail removed and the lower (Bay-boat style) rails installed--that raised rail was hideous to try to fish over; or get into or out of the boat over. It's MUCH better now and the bow will easily accomodate a trolling motor.
I did some research on the internet and it appears that there are quite a few center console boats being used in that area. That makes me feel lots better about keeping it, as there will likely be a market if I find it isn't the ticket for me after we get there.

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | If you live in Green Bay there are a lot of angling opportunites within 2 hours. Green Bay is limited for fishable patterns and truely a nightmare for most. If you are looking for more appealing fishing opportunities High Falls like nightmare said is a good choice. The Stevens Point to Merril area is a real sleeper and the Milwaukee area is better than many would think. However, there is truely something special about the northern experience. Wausau, Merrill or Tomahawk are my top choices for homes in the state based on their fisheries. |

Location: Green Bay, WI | I am from that area, and we are also looking there. You are correct--great fishing there. In fact I grew up fishing musky on the WI river. If I close my eyes I can still see dark wakes behind Cisco Kid toppers and Musky Hawks to this day!
Maybe it's better that the water is dark...ignorance is bliss. Or is it fat, dumb & happy?

Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | I know Ken Carbon, Muskies Inc member, has fished muskies for out af a 22'possibly 24' brand unk. with a center console. And he trailers that monster from Colorado to fish ontario. Check the MI site if you want to contact him for his insight. As far as using them on the great lakes I see many of them on the water fishing all species. The smallest Ive seen on the great lakes was a 16' whaler fishing salmon near Door Co. If youre happy, with it I'd say keep it. |
