Hi,

Can someone out there tell me how you run your leagues? We are kicking around the idea of starting one and do not want to reinvent the wheel. I know Rhinelnader has a league night. Anyone out there that can help me?

Thanks,
Brian

Boro, Rhinelander league is quite simple in its set up......

Two boat / four person teams (can have subs fish if someone can not make it), fishing under the name of various sponsors

11 week season, usually beginning first Tuesday after N. WI opener

A predetermined set or body of water in the area is in play each week, fishing from 5-9 p.m.

After the first five weeks, there is a "free Tuesday night" over the 4th of July week due to vacations (fishing is optional, no league points awarded, but I believe $$$ is paid accordingly)

Weeks 6-10 cycle through the same predetermined waters of weeks 1-5, in the same order

Legal fish need to be verified on the water by a third party (including other league boat)

After fishing, everyone meets at one of the sponsoring watering holes to report legal fish, tally points, eat, drink, BS, announce legal fish caught, pay out prize money etc.

Team and individual points accumulate each week, with Team Champs and Top Gun Angler announced at a year end banquet.

These are the basics, but I am only going into my junior year participating in the Rhinelander league......if you sent a PM to: sworrall / nwild / MuskyDr / Mroberts I would think anyone of those league long-timers could give you more info/detail or correct me where I am in error. There are many others who participate that use this board, but those guys are "connected".

any of you other rhinelander league guys or folks from the area ... read this ....

was talking to Rick the other night at the Whale and we are going to put together a monday night minocqua musky league this year. we're really going to focus on making it fun and hopefully get a good bunch out on mondays on the lakes up here. Rick and i are going to talk to Jim at R&H's along with some of the guys over in Lake Tom who did some informal stuff last year. anyone looking for big money and tight competition won't find it here ..... again, just another reason to get together with other guys on and off the water.

if anybody is interested, let me know with either a pm or email at [email protected] . the show season is keeping a lot of the guys busy right now, but you could also talk to Rick at Rollie & Helen's ... hopefully we'll be organized in a month or three ... we're thinking 4-man, 2-boat teams and running it similar to the tuesday night rhinelander league.

Big Mo,

Thanks for the info. Do you guys pay a one time entrance fee or do you pay each week?

Thanks again,
Brian

Fox River Valley Chapter 39 will also kick off a fishing league this Summer on the Fox Chain, just a Sunday outing in June and July. All the boys up North have fun with the concept so we thought we would try it on a small basis and expand it if it is successful

the Rhinelander league is a one time $50.00 and i think subs have to pay $5 or $10 to fish. each week $50.00 is awarded on catches and $50.00 for a door prize drawing only available to those in attendance. the point system is awarded on fish, but also for showing up, so if it's a tight race ... the participation points count. there are sponsors, but i'm not sure if or how much they kick in .... Dave Jonesi .... you out there? Dave and Steve can help a lot more with those details. i'm pretty sure it's documented and i would think be made available to others that would like to do it. at the end of the year i think there are 3 prizes awarded (1) big fish, (2) most points (angler) and (3) team award. awards one and two are cash and the team award is a hand-embroidered jacket for the 4-man winning team.

and, the Minocqua League is a GO! ... we'll be running it out of Rollie&Helen's Musky Shop and it will probably be smallish the first year, but we hope to get it going and hope it will be as fun and rewarding as the tuesday night league in Rhinelander.

jonny, you are almost right on the sub amount, it's $10 the first time and $5 for anytime after that. But if you have a second person that you have to resort to, then that person must pay $10 the first time to. And there is actually $140 given away each night. The big fish for the night receives $50, second big fish takes $25, and third big fish for the night takes $15. Then at the end of the night everyone gets a ticket for the $50 raffle.

P.S. Jonny, you need a partner for the Minocqua league to? Were still on again for the Rhinelander league right?

While we're talking about leagues, I wonder how many other fishing clubs or areas have fishing leagues?

i'm going to put together a team for the minocqua league .... i've got an idea for one person in my boat and if you are interested .. Game On. as far as the Rhinelander league is concerned i'm going to be in again, just not sure what Mike is going to do. i'm sure he's going to want to do it, but it will be a long drive for him. i hope we can keep it together, but at least you and i can make sure our boats are on the team, then it's just a matter of who the other person will be that's in them.

Hi, I think John hit most of the bigger points about the Rhinelander Musky League. 4 man teams, a 50 dollar angler fee, a 75 dollar sponsor fee( which we seem to have way more sponsors than teams), 1st 50 dollars 2nd 25 dollars and 3rd 10 dollars for the largest fish each nite of league and then a 50 dollar raffle drawing. A banquet at the end of the year , 1st place team takes all be it jackets, trophies, etc.. also given out is cash for the biggest fish and Top Gun award which is doled out of money that has not been taken during the season. We rotate lakes and sponsor establishments throughout the season. Usually a 10 week season with the 4th of July tuesday being a fun nite since many people have obligations. Without a doubt it is a great way to spend a tuesday evening in the summer, great comraderie, competition, and a whole lot of fun!! Looking forward to the next season and I will be posting info as the time draws near, any ideas to bring forward would be welcomed such as a lengthened season, different lakes, 1/2 hour later fishing hours, throw it out and we can all discuss ALL proposals. 2006 is going to be a great year!!!!
