Location: Apollo, PA | I'm looking for a reel to put on my jerkbait rods to handle HR's and gliders to 12"s. Im considering Calcutta 400, Penn 965, and just looking for another 7000CL. What would you do and why. I never fished with the Calcutta or Penn but heard they are both good reels. Since neither is cheap, I'm looking for advice.
Thanks, Pikiespawn |

Location: Chicago, Beverly | I love my penn 965 and have a 7000.. (not sure which 7000, its a black one..lol..).. For big baits those are my two reels, with the 965 getting the edge because of better drag system.. I do not use my Calcutta for bigger stuff..it should be able to handle the stuff, just don't like using it for that stuff, not when I feel the other two are better suited. |

| Abu 7000CL? I've got one and a 7000C3 and neither do very well when trying to twitch baits (i.e. gliders).
I use a Calcutta 400 and it's smooth as silk. I use it with gliders, too. Burned up an Abu C4 and switched to the Calcutta and never had a problem. The only time they begin to show wear and tear is if you are "juking" or ripping bigger twitch baits like Invaders, 8" and 10" Jakes, Grannies, etc. Otherwise, it should be able to handle gliders very nicely. |

| Pikie, I'd consider the Penn 965, outstanding performance off the shelf. Also maybe a pimped out Abu 6500? I want a 6500 frame with 7000 guts with smoothie drag and deluxe bearings from Hatteras Outfitters, talk to Tres Irby. Duff |
