Anyone have thoughts on using big baits like 13" Grannies, 10" and 14" Jakes, etc. on shad based reservoirs (IL, KY, OH, PA boys)?

8" and 10" Tuff Shads are used very succefully on Ohio, Pa, WV and NY waters. The 10"ers seem to produce best in the fall, (probably because most guys don't try it much during warmer weather), but the 8" is good producer at any time.

RAZE 1 throws custom color Grandma's quite a bit in Ohia lakes, seems to do good on them if you can get him away from his pet Bulldawgs!
Chris Haley didn't tell you that his secret weapon is SS Shads, so I'd better not spill those beans! Chris, if you read this, send me a PM about your trip to Melton Hill, can't wait to hear the details. Gonna try to get down there early spring. m

We use large lures like the 10" jake on the reservoirs from mid summer til freeze up. Don't usually get into the larger lures like plows and 14" jakes til fall but that's not saying it wouldn't work. The shad around here get huge. I've seen dead ones that were 15" long and must have weighed a pound and a half. Almost looked like a white bass from a distance. Since seeing that I don't have any problem using large lures almost anytime of the year.

Big Baits are a nice contrast to the shad, and they certainly work in Indiana

Big Tuff Shads work well and so do big Jakes
