Subject: Ontario fishing trip for 2006

With my persuasion and recommendations, my family is in the planning stages of a week long fishing trip to Canadian waters for 2006. About 10 fisherman with a couple of rookies included. I am looking for some ideas with a few amenities that I listed below. Either a resort and or camping. All are experienced campers. For the right prices and accommodations everyone I hope would be willing to stay at a resort. The month is still uncertain as we are getting everyone’s schedules together. Any and all recommendations will be looked into. I am researching the campgrounds and the resorts. Private Messages are welcome.

Thanks!
Dan

On water
Semi secluded
Good quality fishing
Boat docking with electricity
Gas
Refrigeration
Fire pit
Fishing bait available
Shower would be nice
Option for cooking or not
May need to rent a boat

The family owned Red Wing Lodge (www.redwinglodge.net) is a place to seriously consider, especially if taking your family. The Bartlett's are wonderful hosts, and will treat you as one of theirs. They have cabins to fit your large group as well.

Plus, you can't beat the fishing on Lake of the Woods!

Sabaskong Bay Lodge!!

Everything you need is right there. And..on an island only about 5 miles from Morson.

Sabaskong Bay Lodge is a good choice. Nice people running it and a great location. Another good choice for a larger group if you don't want to be on an island is Canadian Haven Resort in Nestor Falls, On. This is a great family resort with the best rental boats in the area. Here is a link. Tell Brian and Kathy Hi from Bob Pieske.

Another BIG recommendation...www.andymyerslodge.com I am heading there once again this year and will continue to do so. Not only is the muskie fishing good but everything else including lake trout, walleye, small mouth, and northern pike. Herbeck will mark your map for you on any kind of fishing you want to do. He will also tell you in detail what they have been catching them on and do seminars on it!

try Riverside Lodge in Bobcaygeon ONtario. Lots of muskies there and the prices are fair and affordable.

I liked Jerrie and Ellies cedar lake camp North of Vermillion Bay Ont. Nice accomodations, cheap and good boat docks with a nice fish fry on Tuesday noon. The fishing was good with a chance a a big + fish. BG

Which area of Ontario are you interested in? East or West? All of those are great recomendations. Hard for me to decide which I would go to!

Give Herbie at Andy Meyers Lodge a call.

No better place to go.

Tomyv,
I am leaning on the western side but not restricted to. If you can recommend any others please do so. Basically, anywhere north of the 45th parallel excluding WI. North from Sault Ste Marie to the East and North from the MN/ND boarder to the West.

I have had great feedback thus far. Web address or links are the best. Stories which I have received with them returning to these places means to me that they have made some fond memories.

Most all of us have fished in Canada in various places before. As a family we have taken multiple trips to Ontario. Since then we have added to our family and would like to make some all together new memories.

I am researching all that are sent to me. The recommendations along with having stayed there are the most important thing for me at this point.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,

If it's been a long time since you trekked to Canada, you might want to experience the "New Generation Lodge, with the Old World Feel." A common thread here has been Andy Myer's Lodge...they treat each and EVERY guess like a king. Go to his website, and look under fishing reports. You'll notice there are so many "Thanks..." posts, that it sometimes clutters the more important stuff for us fisherman....MUSKIES...how they're doing catching them, and on what!! LOL :-)

Anyway, Herbie has hired the best guides, super cook, and dock-boys that'll freak you out...you come down in the morning, you are all gassed up, and your boat is idling, awaiting your butt in the drivers seat! As well, each night you can hang out in the lodge talking "fishin'!" Herbie does two seminars a week too...this are an incredible amount info for the average guy, and it is amazing how it helps to boat and catch more and bigger fish!

The guides there are the best within 100 miles of Eagle Lake....greatness breeds greatness! Herbie has a knack for catching big ski's...and any other fish for that matter. The guides fish any one of 12-18 lakes close by that have muskies in them, and another 12-15 that have ANY type of fish in them. It is a FIRST CLASS act there.

Just my 2 cents worth,
Donnie

If you're out in that neck of the woods, I would also recommend Eagle Lake, I've never stayed at Herbie's, but I"ve never heard a bad thing about it. You may also want to consider Sabaskong Bay, or Wabigoon. Check out www.indianpointcamp.com. Wabigoon can be tough, but there are a lot of big girls in there!

Wow, I had great feedback on this!

If there are any others that I can research please speak now before the painstaking elimination starts. Or if you have some PFF(Positive Fish Feedback) that you could share with me.
Again, Private Messages are welcome.
Thanks!

I'll recommend Rough Rock Lodge on the Winnipeg River. New owners, great fishing, only lodge for 15 miles, excellent boat rentals, great fishing for walleye pike bass and muskies. Check it out!!!

Kugs, not fair to plug the resort you own!!!! Though I'd do the same if I owned it.

If it is not fair for them to plug Rough Rock Lodge--then I will (even though I thought we were going to try and keep the muskies to ourselves ). Quiet, relaxing place with awesome fishing for walleyes, smallmouth, pike and muskies--and 'crazy' (it's OK--they're from Iowa) new owners! It is brown colored water with current, rocks and LOTS of beautiful cabbage (all 4 kinds) and coontail. With everyone coming to Minnesota and increasing boating traffic on my favorite local waters, Rough Rock Lodge is where I spent my July-Sept to escape and keep my sanity! http://www.roughrocklodge.com

Muskie Bay Resort is another place I would recommend. It is located in Nestor Falls on Crow Lake. Crow is deep and gin clear with tons of reefs. Muskies, smallmouth and lake trout fishing is usually very good, but if the weather isn't cooperating on Crow, drive over to their access on Sabaskong Bay of Lake of the Woods and fish the exact opposite elements that you would find on Crow--dark water with mid-summer algea bloom, very weedy and warmer water. Muskies, pike, smallmouth and crappie are the targets on Sabaskong. http://www.muskiebayresort.com

Bill Sandy's Blackhawk Island Muskie Camp is the other place I fish out of in Canada. Very quiet and relaxing camp on the NW Angle part of Lake of the Woods. It is a newer camp with very nice log cabins. This is probably the most well known part of the Woods for muskie fishing. Walleyes, smallmouth and northern pike fishing are also outstanding. Sorry, I can't remember their website at this time.

These are my favorites, and they fit all of your criteria, but anyplace you go you will have fun and catch fish.
