I HAD Humingbird as part of a boat package once... notice I said HAD.

I've got an older Garmin 240 on the bow of my boat now. That's an OK unit especially for the price they go for.

This spring I purchased a Lowrance 332C for the back of the boat. I love it, with one small exception. The screen size is a tad too small. Although the alternative was almost twice the price. For the money, it's a great unit. I had planned on getting an x-15 but was eventually talked into getting a color unit. Best move I've made in a long time. Color is a lot easier to see and read than b/w.

My suggestion is to first decide how much money you want to spend then shop comparable units in the price range you're looking at. That narrows the search a lot.

I have a console boat and run a vexilar FL-10 in dash flasher there. I like the real time output and when depth starts to come up, I can visually see it happening on the display whereas on a LCD screen, it will change screen depending on your setting.

Up front, I use my Vexilar FL-8 that does double duty in winter as well.

In the back, the wife likes the screen so I have a Lowrance X65 back there. I like that for walleyes as well (did that actually come out of MY mouth?).

finally, I have a simple Garmin 126 GPS on the console as well.

Nice thing with the vexilar units now is that you can purchase them with the "alumaducer" which allows you to mount the transducer inside the hull with epoxy (like many do with their glass hulls). This translates into no holes in the transom if that is something you happen to be concerned with.

I have Humminbird Matrix units on my boat. A 47-3d unit on the bow and 981C with side imaging on the console.

I have mine set up with a gps antenae and weather barometer to both units and I think I will be getting a wireless sonar link for the Smartcast transducer.

I don't fish big water, so haven't invested in a map unit. Just the GPS set up suits my needs for now.

I know Humminbird had a bad rep, but these are not the units of old!
