Good luck during the 9 day gun and following Black Powder season. Be safe, and shoot a BIG buck!

Sunday:
Keith got Old Splayed Toes tonight. He has almost no teeth at all, and his hooves are worn to long, splayed remnants. Three years back this old boy was way over 20" wide and tall as could be, I know because I missed him in a fit of Buck Fever. All but the main beam points and one tine are busted off, he might have been old, but he still was a scrapper. When Keith picked him up there was a piece of another Buck's hide about 3" long and a goodly chunk of hair stuck to his neck by his rack.

I'll get pictures of Sue's doe later this week. I didn't see a single deer today, but sitting all day in that stand was about perfect.

Another day with no deer in range on the high land stand, but that's fine. We have four in the garage, and there is a full week left in the woods before I head out with the smoke pole. I have a Hawken I like to use that's 1 in 66", so cap and ball only. Accurate as my 270 WSM, but only out to about 100 yards using open sites.

A couple yearling does have been added, yet we still see as many as a dozen more each day crossing the large opening we have our stands set up on. Most are sticking to the swamps this year, as I'm only seeing a couple a day up on my ridge, being chased about by little bucks with amorous ideas.

Toady it's really nasty, curtailing travel for many on Thanksgiving in the Rhinelander area, no doubt. Winds, whipping snow, and single didgt temps are the rule of the day. I will st from about 2: 30 to dark, all I can stand in this sort of cold. It's not the temps, it's the winds that eat a fellow's body heat fast.

Sue got a big doe this morning at sunrise and passed a couple others later today. It was her day to shoot, mine tomorrow! Keith passed a 5, 3, and spike, saw 10 deer total.

Way to go, you are off to a great start. Sue should be feeling better now, after being down last weekend

I passed 4 different bucks and 2 does Saturday. 6, 4, small deformed rack ??? and one other. Had one shooter, maybe 8 or so, with a real tall rack but he never gave me a shot. Saw one other one lurking through the brush about 150 yards or so that I have no idea what it was.

I seriously considered removing the STUPID gene from that 6 pointers family tree the fourth time he walked past my stand. But I didn't.

Have to work today. Will maybe get out Tuesday morning for a couple hours before winterizing the boat.

Scott

I stopped hunting the WI opener a few years back, coincided with my Mother In-Law allowing me to hunt on her property in MO. Harvested this mid 120 class buck on the 3rd day 11/14. Way too many antlers for this former WI public hunting ground user to pass on!

What an opening day!
My Dad, at 75 and still a better hunter than 99% of any that I may meet, came out of retirement after 6 years of not hunting. That alone made my season! But it got even better!
By 9:00 AM I had 14 points, that dressed out at 280 lbs., on the ground!!!!
Oh.....I forgot to mention that it was two deer, an 8 and and a 6 pointer. My tracking skills were tested to my limit with a combined blood trail of 1/4"!!
Boone and Crockett measuring wasn't required as Dad said that the Amana Chest Freezer measuring system would be used, and they both easily qualified!
It sure was awesome to be hunting with my Dad again!

Good luck to all and safe hunting.

Nice deer! All I saw was a spinney critter, and a couple of birds??? We are in a buck only zone and it really sucks, the wolves have eaten us out of house and home!

I got a nice 8 pointer with a 14.25" spread. We do quality mangement and bucks have to be 14", so I just escaped a fine!! Nice deer, and now since meat will be in the freezer tonight, I can concentrate on one more weekend of muskie fishing.

Nice buck...gotta tell ya I hunted IL for numerous years and it has to have a crazy 8 point gene. You see some of the largest 8 points each year...really unreal...Ben

Hey Skunk, Nice one!! What are the numbers on that rack? Those gotta be 13" G2's, and beer can bases!

I hunted ill too for bow, and got a huge 8 once and saw some others like it. It was uncanny the way the 8 pointers grew down there. I wish I could go back there!!! wish my buddy hadn't sold his farm.

hunted all weekend on the Adams Co property(my buddies dads) we've always hunted. Saw and videotaped a 120 class 9 point for a half hour as it came and bedded at 15 yards on sat morning and 5 other 8's. Didn't see the big one though. Buddy shot the 9 on sun that I saw Sat. Nice deer, and biggest he has ever taken. Hope to see the one I'm after next weekend, but have enough venison from the bow buck if a skunking occurs.

Tremendous bucks! We don't have many of that quality here, no mast crops, no farms, just browse in my area. We get a few good ones though! Winds are 30 MPH and temps down in the single digits tonight.

Off to the woods in an hour or so, goning to be a cold one I fear. Any word from Nelson's Choice, Theedz, or any of the others out there looking for a venison roast on the hoof?

Turkey Day, cool. No diet today, I'm having homemade Apple Pie for dessert!!
