Looking to take a second trip to LOW possibly in early August, but at this point, would be going on my own with my Labrador. I have found that Non residents can camp on crown land, but is this allowed on non-reservation land within lake of the woods..preferrably sabaskong bay area?

Anyone done this up there who could give me a little insight? I know the cost is $10 per person per day, but can find nothing for lake of the woods, nor have I seen anyone camping out there either.

Any help would be great!! Thanks much!!

I don't know about the Sab Bay area, but I have camped on land in the NW Angle. We just got our camping permit from Monument Bay Lodge and headed out and set up camp on land.

I know there are a few designated spots in the Angle with picnic tables, but we made our own camp and had a great time.

Steve,

A Sab Bay resort guide once took us for lunch on an island that had 2 makeshift picnic tables and an uncovered potty. It was nice because the picnic tables were protected from the wind and sun by the trees and the latrine was far enough away from the tables for some privacy. It was on an island near the entrance to Miles Bay. The guide told us that it was OK for US citizens to camp there.

At the time, I didn't ask for details about whom to pay or how much. For info about the island's name & location, call Angler's Pro Shop in Nestor Falls, ON. 807-484-2525. The guide who showed us the island now works out of that store. Ask for Thatcher Haggberg. You will probably have several islands to choose from.

Just get your permit ($10 per day for each adult) and you're good to go. Non-residents can't camp in whitefish, but Sababskon is fine. Make sure you secure the bait well. Someone put there boat in at the resort and went camping in Miles Bay, then woke up in the morning without a boat. Lucky they had another boat in the group to come back to shore for help. They thought it was stolen, but turned out it just floated away. Water level cvan change 6 inches or more with wind direction changes. Have fun, watch out for bears!

Oops, that should be secure the BOAT well. HAHAHA I guess baits should be secure too, but hopefully they will not be what the bars are after.
