Location: Wausau | Every time I shift my Yamaha 150 4 stroke you can hear the gears grinding. Is this normal?
After time, I fear the grinding will cause damage. Any tips on prevention?

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | It sounds to me the shift linkage needs to be adjusted. I'd take it to a certified Yamaha mechanic to be certain. |

Location: Eau Claire, WI | I'll second what Steve said. I have a smaller Yami on one of my boats and you can't hear it shift at all. On my 175 Merc it will grind if you take your time, (try to ease it) into gear, you need to make a "positive" shift then all you get is shift noise, no grinding. |

| A grinding noise occurs when shifting into forward on my Yamaha 150 4-stroke if I shift from neutral to forward in a slow manner. If I move the throttle forward quickly for the first couple inches, no abnormal noise is heard. |

| I have the same situation. The dealer advised me that they will grind. After thye first year I got worried and had the dealer take another look at it. Normal. Just put it in gear and go. Your's sounds normal. |
