I have some older bucktails that the blades have gotten gunky,,would like to remove the paint and start over or shine up the metal finnish if possible,,,would like to take the easy way and use a chemical that will remove the paint without any sanding, grinding, if possible, but would like to hear any methods that will work

Unless the manufacturer has used a self-etching primer, you should be ok using a quality solvent after scuffing the clearcoat. If they used the self-etching primer, you're better off just buying new blades.

For the blades with no paint, I just dump them into an RCBS brass tumbler used for reloading ammunition. Works like a charm! Squirt a little brasso into your media for the brass blades or a stainless steel polish for the silver blades.
