Location: Northern Wisconsin | this weekend we boated 2 small muskie, both about 30 inches. the first one inhaled the back treble on the bucktail and it was pretty far in its mouth. after a little work and and a little bleeding he swam away right away even though he was bleeding. the nesx fish had one of the trebles from the suick all in its gills. a section of the gill was pulled out and it was also bleeding a little. this fish just swam around the surface with its head out of the water and was jumping around. we are fairly new to muskys and we have caught about 8 in the last two years. the bigger muskies (over 35) havent had any problems with the hooks but the smaller fish have been. does any one else have this happening or am i doing something wrong. i figured this stuff may happen so made all my lures barbless when i first started but i am still having problems. should i worry or am i having bad luck?thanks

Location: Northern Wisconsin | thanks guys, i feel better know about those fish. it kind of ruined my trip seeing the fish hurt. im am pretty sure he survived, it was just a small section of gill that was hanging out. the only thing i can do to help now is help stock the lake. p.s. it was a fun fish even though it was at max 30 inches. it was about time to head home and my dad said "ready to head back?" i said "lets go to that one spot to make a few casts." he agreed. we motored over and started our drift and we agreed we would go until we got infront of the big flag pole. we got to the pole and i said "last cast..... wouldn't it be cool to catch a 40 pounder on the called last cast like that guy from our lodge did?" and then the lure is about 10 feet from the boat and i saw it come out of no where and smash the lure. it was exciting.
