Just wondering if anyone is fishing with/having any luck with suckers out on the water. Thinking about coming home from school Oct 7,8 and 9.

Caught a nice 42 inch fish last weekend on a 15 - 16 inch sucker last weekend. We only fished for a couple hours and had 2 follows in addition to the one I caught. Caught it dragging it behind the boat with a bobber. It dropped the minnow twice but turned and slammed it again right next to the boat. Almost felt sorry for the minnow. We'll be picking up a few suckers each weekend now.

Can I ask what it is about fishing with suckers that people seem to enjoy? Whenever we've used them, it seems as if Andrew spends more time fooling around with them than actually casting.

You need to keep your boat on the weed edge, if you start crashing into the weeds you will be dealing with the suckers all day. It is all about boat control.

I enjoy the large fish that eat my suckers.

I've been using them this past week with no success but have had reports of others getting pickups now and then. It's time. I agree that tending suckers can be a chore but it is an effective presentation. Do I enjoy it? Not until I hear the clicker humming, then I like it a lot!

Guys,
Thank you for the info. I agree, running suckers requires great boat control. In the long run, it will make people a better fisherman if they can run a weedline without getting the suckers hung up. This is the time of year to a giant. It is to bad I am sitting at school, I wish I was muskie fishing and bowhunting.

You may want to consider running the weed lines and setting the sucker out on the deep side of the boat. Also, a bobber rig that can be set very shallow, might keep it weed free. BG

I like runnin suckers, cuz on my second day muskie fishin ever, we saw 15 fish on the sucker alone!!!!! Granted I had a guide that day on the Indian chain in Ontario, so it's pretty easy to have a day like that up there!
