First Sorno pops a nice Tiger on a beat up pink Castor, and with a small batch of Perkas
ready to hit the swap board tomorrow in time for turnover, I get an e-mail from my friend, Brian Jones, that he nailed a 49.5" fish on a Kick-Ass Castor today. I have about 20 bodies ready to convert to KAC's, all I have to do is paint them and get the tails ready. Actually it's pretty easy because I only use Kalin 5" grubs that get screwed on and use a drop of glue, and the smaller grub adds enough action while still allowing the lure to swing from side to side just like it always does.
Way to go Brian!
Way to go Sorno!
The Perkas will be ready by the end of this week, and the remaining bodies will become KAC's by the end of next week, just in time for the fall frenzy.

Beav,
Cant wait to show these down south muskies some of those baits!
I hope I can help you with your "shameless self-promotional" tour this Fall!
Heck I'd rather take a picture of you holding one after you catch it!

Is there a picture somewhere that I can see what these baits look like?

Go to page 3 of the General Discussion forum - Thread called "You make the call"
Or now as I look more closely at things - just go to the Buy, Sell, Trade board.

It is a Castor with a 5" Kalin grub fastened to the rear end by a very secret means that cost me millions in engineering and research.
The 5" grub gives the lure extra action and you can mix or match colors any way you want because the 5"ers are a hell of a lot cheaper than the big ones. The smaller grub also allows the lure to glide just like it did before it was added.

There's a significant difference in the body shape between the Treat and the Castor, the Castor having more of a drop front. There's also a significant difference in the way the two baits work, I have one of both and both are good baits. I highly recommend purchasing both if you are into that type of Glider. I'd get a Squirko, too. And a Burt.

I'm pretty sure Beav was speaking tongue in cheek about the tail assembly. Far as I can tell, Beav just took a Castor and added a tail, so that's hardly more of a copy than any other glider with a tail stuck on the end. Seems to me there's a bunch of them out there and the only original was the bait with a plastic tail glued on it that was first. I don't know who that was, and don't much care. I bet there will be more with plastic tails glued on, and that people will buy them if they work well. Competition in the lure biz is always interesting. How many tail rotating topwater baits are out there now, all copies in a way of the Tallywhacker which was a copy of the Mud Puppy, which.....and bucktails? All copies of the old spoon hook, far as I'm concerned. I'll buy the ones that look good to me. I designed the very first Creature, and several after that. Curtis added a spinner blade to my molded creature and called it a Curtis Creature. A Bull Dog is a creature with the jig molded in. Innovation and advancement will happen. Lures will look an awful lot alike but they will ALL have their own unique action.

'Patented' Fishing lures only have to be changed 7% or so to make the 'same' bait and sell it, look at the Dare Devil and all the copies out there. The true success story of any lure is developing the NAME and BRAND so people recognize it and want it as a result.

Great fish and cool Castor...guess I'll have to get one of those or mod one of my two Castors.
