Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | When you hit your favorite water, how often do you fish outside the box, trying areas you normally pass by because of habit? There are SO many good areas on my local waters, I fall into a rut sometimes and have to force myself to get structure selection versatile.
How about you?
To break the pattern, I decide to go to my water and fish areas I KNOW are potentials without hitting any of my favorite haunts. It pays off, frequently.

| I would agree totally. Many times, there have been patters I have found by trying different spots than my traditional ones. The problem with traditional spots is that they are fairly well known by other fishemen as well. So...getting away from them pays off if they get hit hard enough.

Location: oswego, il | If you have a lull in the action, bright sun or otherwise need to take a break from the action, motor along the shore slowly along the breakline or 10ft for example for starts. Run it for awhile. You may be in for some surprises. I found some great secondary boulder fingers on vermillion that if you looked at the bank, would have no idea they were there. Same on other lakes with weeds too. I have found some nice deep weed patches on lakes with alot of weeds but none in the area or that part of the lake. Nobody fishes a spot like that and fewe would find it without exploration since they are not on any maps. |

Location: Orland Park | I find if you hit spots that are not frenquently fished........you will bring fish up. Reason being................those fish don't see many lures.
Case in point....Lungin's 52"er in a spot that we hit maybe once during a week of fishing. Girl's Camp on Cass!
Talk about selling out a spot!

It seems as if I do the same thing as you. When I find myself in a rut I abandon all my "normal" areas for a day and force myself to fish different. The results more often than not are encouraging enough to remind me to fish the entire lake, not just my favorites. |
