Can anyone give me some input on the 60 h.p. versions of four-stroke by these two companies? I am looking to replace my Honda 50.hp with a 60h.p and would like to know which way to go. Is the dollar difference really justified? Has anyone had bad experiences with either? Thanks for any input!

Both companies make a great motor. I'd look at the handle kit cost and installation for the Suzuki if your rig is a tiller, what the motor warranty looks like for both, and the availablity of service in the area you live and fish. Both companies are good to work with, and both back their products well. I've run both motors on like product, and feel they are very similar in power curve and top end.

I hear the extension handle adds about 600.00. I will be curious to see what the bottomline difference is going to be with the trade and all. I should get my figures back today. I am guessing that there will be 1500.00-2000.00 difference between the two brands. Service should not be a problem in my area, just as long as they are both as dependable as my Honda has been. I wish Honda would fill the gap between 50 & 75 and also add fuel injection.

Does anyone currently run a 60 h.p Mercury efi that would have any input here?

I have the 40 Mercury 4 stroke, and love it. Two years use without a burp so far. I know of several folks running a 60 Mercury 4 stroke on Tuffy Esox Mags, with very positive results.

Suzuki is a direct injected engine Merc is an EFI. Suzuki has an offset crankshaft to almost completely eliminate tiller handle vibration. Just a couple of reasons for Suzuki. I sell both here and we have had great success with the both the Suzukis and the Mercs. You are going to see a little performance increase in the Suzuki plus a bit more fuel economy. This is due to the multi port injection vs the EFI.

I'm looking at a 2004 60 hp Johnson 4stk...is it true that it's a Suzuki in white?

Any feedback?

It's either this or a 40 hp bigfoot merk 4stroke. Help!

4 stroke Johnson is indeed a Suzuki with white paint. Exactly the same motor with all interchangable parts as a 60 hp Suzuki.

Muskyone sounds like you work for a dealership in western WI--which is where the boat will be most of the time.

Any issue with getting the johnson(suzuki) serviced in that area. I know with Yammi's it means taking it to Forest Lake, MN or Eau Claire--either way is a bit of a haul for service.

There are two servicing dealers I know of in the Twin Cities, and at least one in the Hayward area, I think. Suzuki has been out there acquiring new dealers, check with their website for servicing dealer locations.

A friend of mine bought a Merc 60 EFI last year, he loves it, so far no problems, good on gas, and of corse being a four stroke much more quiet.
