Posts: 110 Location: NEW LENOX IL | Hi guys ,I'm in the market for a new boat and was just curious how many guys fish out of bass boats as opposed to a walleye/muskie boat. I'm torn between a 620 dvs ranger and a Z series ranger either a Z20 or a Z21. I fish 99% in northern WI. I know the 620 is awsome can anyone give me some pros and cons on both. Water I will encounter will be up to 2 footers but in 1 tourney we saw waves up to 4 feet. Give me your opinions Thanks Dave

| The 620 is a great boat, slow out of the hole but who really cares. Get the 4 stroke awesome gas mileage. Not the easiest to realease fish from the front deck. I can smoke the waves when I have to. Depends on what you want. I prefer safety on the water. Been to many times I've been caught in big waves. Chine walking in a bass boat never was much of thrill for me. I prefer to be high and dry. | |||

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I have fished out of plenty of 620's and 520's and the 620 is one of the best musky boats out there. I have never had any problems releasing fish in these boat. They are dry, have a great ride, smooth, and the best thing is the front deck and the back deck with the extention is very hard to beat. If you are thinking about a 620 or a 520, it would be a no brainer for me. I would go with the 620 for sure.

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Unless you troll a lot, want to fish nothing but big water, or need a big livewell go bassboat. A bassboat is a better fishing platform, has more storage, gets better gas milage and can fish more people casting. There are also many more options to buy one used at a great price. When I fish, I don't have anything on the deck except the rods I intend to use and the net. No tripping over tackleboxes, chairs or other crap that litters the deck. It's nice to get to the spot before others in tournament situations as well. I also fish a lot of shallow water and there's no way a 620 or equivilant would be able to get into where I go a lot of the time. There hasn't been anything water conditions I've encountered that I can't be out in yet. One big note though, bassboats are not all created equal!!!! Boats like Skeeters and Nitro's are not as adept to the big water as boats like Champions, Procrafts and the new Triton 21 XD. Look at the V in the boat and it'll tell you a lot about the water it can take. Just don't buy a merc (your loving it aren't you Mike).

Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | I will chime in on this one... While I currently fish out of a Ranger 690 and absolutely love the layout, I agree with Treats on this one. I have several friends who fish out of 19-21 foot bass boats and one of my best friends has a 620.. and if I could afford a new rig with the choices being 620 or Z series... I would have to lean pretty heavy toward the Z series. I was very impressed with what I saw in looking at the Z series at Frankies this spring, and from what I'm hearing they will run across 2-3 footers very easy with a dry smooth ride, of course the ride of any boat will most be determined by how it is driven..! Like you 95% of my fishing is WI with several trips a year to MN. Either style will serve you well, you'll need to decide what layout you like best and go from there.

Location: Minneapolis, MN | I had a Triton bass boat and loved it. I just went to a 620 and love it more. I've learned to like trolling and there's just no way you can troll a big bass boat effectively and not worry about blowing up the motor. I also have a not so great back and just couldn't take the pounding of big water like Treats. Treats is still a young punk and will trade speed for a good pounding. I predict with time he'll age, his back won't take it anymore and he'll cave to a deep boat if he fishes enough big water
