I just got word that Frank Schnider passed away this afternoon from brain cancer. He was diagnosed 2 months ago and it quickly spread. Whether you knew Frank or not, everyone knew the results of his lifes work. There has been no other I've ever known that has made as big of difference for sportsman across this country.

I'll have more information tomorrow concerning his families plans for a wake and funeral.

God bless you Frank.

Shawn - tell us more about him. The muskie world is a large place. Just by the fact that you are taking a moment to mention him is a testament to his impact on "our" world.

Thanks for letting us know the sad news, Treats. I hope the void he left will be filled by someone with the boundless energy and determination that Frank showed. He really contributed a lot to bringing conservation principles into legislation, and was admired by more people than he knew. I hope is family is coping with his passing. mm

ps - Fishwater - there was an article here:
http://www.startribune.com/stories/531/5463393.html

but it has gone to archives now. Perhaps they will have a follow up or reprint it. m

Our prayers and though are with the Schnider family, he was man that was driven in his beliefs and probably but more effort in lobbying for our rights and developing MN fisheries and wildlife that most of us are committed in our day to day job, He will be greatly missed!

God bless

Sorry about the quick message. Had a lot of things to do with that information last night.

He was one of the original MI founders and held most of the executive possitions over the last 40 years. Even with his various illnesses, he could still be found at most every MI meeting.

What he's best known for was the years of his life he spent lobbying in the MN state legistlater pushing for conservation/sportsman issues. There isn't a person in MN politics who is anybody that doesn't know Frank on a first name basis.

Frank was inducted to the MN Fishing Hall of Fame 2-3 years ago for is efforts. Frank was not only a muskie nut, but was very fond of walleye and bass as well. In his later years he spent a lot of time fishing smallies up at his cabin on Lake Vermillion.

There is so much more to his life that I can't remember off hand. He's been around for so long I'm sure that some of you old-timers could jot some of your memories/stories for the rest of us.

I have fond memories of Frank. Many times I would just talk with him at the Intl Board hospitality room. This guy was a wealth of information and many stories.

I am so impressed with his service to the sportsman of MN. I wonder how many of you would drop everything at work and go testify on Capitol Hill?

My condolences got out to his wife, June, family, & friends.

The next time you release a Minnesota Muskie, take and minute and thank your lucky stars that there was a Frank Schneider Jr.

I can't think of a more fitting tribute to Frank than the post above.
