Have been going to the same lake for 20 years. Looking to try something new. Want to stay in Eastern Ont. So no LOTW or vicinity. Any info would be appreciated.

As tomyv stated it would help to know what your looking for as far as trophy potential or action. Here's a quick list:

Trophy systems.
Georgian Bay and tribs-Moon River, French River, Pickeral River, Magnetewan...
Lake Nipissing/Upper French River

action systems.
Kawartha's
Trout lake
Nepewassi Lake

You forgot to mention the best numbers lake in Ontario, Lake St. Clair. Lots of 50"'s caught each year too!

Trophy? Numbers? Duh, I want both!!!

Seriously, I would probably say action. The lake I go to now we average 2 fish per boat per day over the last 5 years. However, it is a small lake and musky fishing pressure has increased greatly. I'm not going to stop going to this lake but would like to make a second trip and start learning new waters.

The Kawartha region would be convienient, any suggesions as to what lake or where to stay? Keep in mind that this trip may be family oriented so the lodging will have to be up to my wife's standards.

Buckhorn Lake, Scotsman Point Resort. I have not been here but have a friend that has a number of times with his wife and two children. Always says he and his family have a good fun time. Lots of activities for the kids, well kept clean cottages etc...

If you are interested in the Kawartha region let me recommend Lower Buckhorn lake. It is a great numbers lake with good numbers of low to mid 40" class fish and fair numbers of upper 40" class fish with the possibility of the occasional 50". There are no public launch ramps so you must either have a cottage on the lake, stay at one of the resorts or lock through. This cuts down on the fishing pressure. The bass fishing is also excellent. We have been going to this lake for about 25 years and consistently boat about 20 muskies every year. Last year we boated 30 muskies with 9 over 40" and this year we boated 18 with 3 over 40". My personal best 48" came from this lake and I know of several over 50" though they are not common. If you want action this is a great lake for both casting or trolling. I think its about 4,000 acres in size. We always stay at Beachwood Resort which is a top notch place. If you want more info email me or message me and I would be happy to share info.

JollyEsox you might want to check in on muskystriker.com. The folks there seem to be mostly from that area and there are many discussions regarding activity on the lakes mentioned above
