I have noticed that very little is said about using suckers and quick-set rigs. I was wondering why that is. Is it somehow unacceptable to use them? I went fishing with a guide in mid May on the Fox Chain who had a couple off the back of the boat. The suckers had more action than any baits we were throwing...I caught a nice 39 incher on a 14 inch sucker...The musky was cleanly hooked...no problems with the release...The guide told me that he had never killed a fish using a quick-set rig...Has this been your experience? Is there a good reason not to use them? Thanks,

matt

There is nothing wrong with using quick set rigs for musky. Many here on the board use them as well. Both spring and fall. The reason you don't hear much now, is that not many use them during the warm water, as it is tough to keep them alive. As long as you use a quick set, or even a circle hook (I personally haven't used circle hooks), and you stick the fish right away, suckers are a great way to musky fish.

I can't wait for fall to start dragigng the meat.

When it gets too warm for the big ones, drop shot 6-8" suckers....they've been catching some big fish here in SE Wisconsin and alot of really nice sized Bass as well.
