Really depends on where you fish ..... What lakes are yoy going to be fishing .... Bomber long A's and 10 inch Jakes have been good for me lately.

You can never go wrong with a Mepps.
Explosives will raise fish in any water.
Some of your walleye crankbaits may be just the ticket, just use a stronger leader.

You can't beat a good spinner bait like the Rizzo Whizz, Slippery Sam or a Mepps Maribou.

if you truly are just beginning ... here's my 2 cents.

- maribu bucktail (black)
- hellhound
- crane
- supertopraider

start working with these and then go nuts like the rest of us!

If you're truly just beginning I might skip the gliders...bucktails (Mepps, EagleTail, Showgirls), spinnerbaits(Raddog, M&G, Ace), Topraider, Bulldawg.

I still catch most of my fish on those baits!

good point phish killer .... but that hellhound is so easy to use, it's tough not to recommend even to a beginner. definitely a good way to start gliding.

Best way for a new guy to lose lot's of fish is to start fishing gliders...actually use gliders and after you lose a bunch of fish you'll go back to Walleye fishing and won't be dropping in on my spots!

You might want to read the article on spinner baits in the latest In Fisherman. It provides some great information about spinner baits and how versatile they are. To sum it up, a good selection of spinner baits in various sizes and blade configurations will provide a Muskie fisherman the ability to target Muskies in many different types of structure as well as some trolling applications.

Spinner baits are my favorite type of lures. Easy to use, very versatile, and they catch fish.

Good luck.

I'll second what herb and pk said, don't get too many lures, get something versatile and keep it wet. A grinder spinnerbait, a topraider and a shallow invader and you're set. These three lures can be worked fast or slow, straight or erratic, and give you options from heavy shallow cover all the way to open water. Lures are fun, but the best way to shorten the learning curve is to learn aspects of muskie fishing other than lures.

Some muskie fisherman catch a lot of fish, some don't, but we all have pretty much the same lures. It's not the lures, it's something else. Concentrate on learning the 'something else'.

throw a tailbait topwater,,the muskie season is short,,the topwater season even shorter,,,maximize the "fun" window
