Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Never been out there before, but will be shortly...what baits/patterns are "must haves" for Pelican? I hear that water temps are sky rocketing up there, but I have a few weeks to go and hopefully she creeps back into the low to mid- 70's by then.

Posts: 32922 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Bring a Castor in a dark color, a Wabull and an Undertaker and a Suick in a dark color, and a Top Raider for the hard baits. Bucktails and soft plastics round things out. Stop by and I'll mark your map!

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I can usually get by on Pelican through August and Early September with just a handful of baits. A Top Raider is a must, Mepps Marabous, Suicks (I prefer the 10" ), and Shallow Invaders. This year there has been a whole lot of suspendos out there so pack accordingly, this year I am using more Triple D's, Molly Baits, Spinner Baits and Gliders. Or go with Jonesi's advice, the man knows his tools!!!! Edited by nwild 7/21/2005 8:13 AM

Posts: 32922 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Norm, You gotta try deep running a Wabull, I can get that thing easily down 12'. I messed with that on Crescent Tuesday during League, and was impressed. If the fish are suspended, I should be able to put that lure right in their face.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | steve .... are you just letting it sink and the working it, or are you assisting the sinking? i'm quickly trying to develop deep water presentation skills. Norm and i were saying at the doghouse tuesday .... all the bait fish in the state of wisconsin are between 10 and 15' of water over 25 plus! just got some ddd's, yozuri deep divers, but also working my regular baits with some weighting tricks from the walleye days. john, i think mike and i fished the right places on pelican during our league night, but i believe a couple things were agains us ... (1) we weren't deep enough in presentation and (2) tough hot conditions existed. our team partner did manage a 37" fish playing the deep water game between and area i liked and another area .... mike's got the skinny. i sure hope you guys do well there. i'll be on Boom the day before for WMT and will be pulling for you on Sunday.
