Posts: 66 Location: Padova - Italy | Hi, I have a trip from Italy scheduled for August 24 intend to try some pike & muskie waters. Considered Vermillion Bay, we can choose from two flights options: Winnipeg or International Falls, rent a van and drive to Vermillion Bay. Heard that there is long lines at custom at Fort Frances but distance is less than from Winnipeg. What is the best option? We plan to try a pike lake north of Red Lake for the first week (already booked) and try a musky lake for 2 o 3 days during our return to International Falls or Winnnipeg. Any spec about which muskie lake/resort to try? Thanks Edited by Luca Cattin 7/15/2005 8:24 AM

Posts: 743 | Luca..you'll want to get some back up info on my advise before you just take it! try to verify it. I have flew into Winipeg before and then drove to Vermillin Bay and to LOTW (Lake of the woods). It you fly into Wennipeg, you wont have to cross customs after you leave the airport to get to your destination. So..there will be no wait at customs (if, in deed you are talking about Vermillion Bay in Ontario, right by Eagle Lake). You will go thru customs at the airport, then if you stay in canada, there are no customs checks when you go thru different Provinces. Winnipeg in in Manitoba, i belive...but you'll soon be in Ontario. Renting a van from the Winnipeg airport is easy (make reservations before you go) and navigating out of Winnipeg towards Vermillion Bay is not that hard. I have never flew into Internations Falls..are you sure they have a big airport there? (where they would land a jet from Italy)? i could not totaly understand your post..are you looking for a resort near Vermillion bay too? some cheap options, some expensive options. i realize this probably didnt help much... tomcat

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I would book a day or 2 with John Unsworth from Sunset Cove Camp on Lake Of the Woods, Nestor Falls. He knows that side of the lake better then anyone for big muskies. http://www.sunsetcovecamp.com/ You also catch many nice pike as a bonus. It is frequent to catch 10 pike from 30-38 inches in a day. I don't think you would want to come all this way and not experience LOTW! It is a very special place.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Welcome! As I recall, you were planning last year to visit Sabaskong Bay Lodge on Lake of the Woods with the MuskieFirst group. Mfirst is doing another outing this year there about the time you will be here, you might consider it, check the Outings section of the Forum. I doubt you'll find better 'pike and muskie waters' or better company. good luck! m

Posts: 66 Location: Padova - Italy | Tomcat I’m looking for a resort or fishing camp who rent boats (3 boats, we are six) maybe in the lake of the Woods, Eagle, Goon, or something for a novice like me. I’m a pike fishing guide here in Europe but haven’t any experience in musky fishing. Jo It is true, Woods is still on my dreams. Mikie Was been very afraid last year but some of my friends wait too long time for confirm that trip and another group booked me for an Ireland trip the same time of your outing. For sure I lost a real chance to know some great people! Having a pike fishing camp booked, and only two days for muskie fishing, 1 and 2 of september, don’t sure if in your next outing could be possible to meet you for these last two days only. They can accept us?

Posts: 743 | http://www.baystorecamp.com/index.html i belive they have the #1 rental boat, for the money, on LOTW. Luca, check out thier availbity. also, the lodging (cost per week) is pretty low. your group could have a good time in 2 boats, with one or two cabins. cost will be low. you fly to WInnipeg. Rent van and drive to the North West ANgle of LOTW. park the van, get in a taxi boat to the island. pretty cheap (all things considered), best value for rental boats on the entire lake...lodging is NOT super expensive. Pike from 34" to 40 " are NOT uncommon on LOTW. i get one around 40" every trip. Muskies..well, there is a reason everyone and thier brother goes to LOTW for their annual fishing trip. probably the #1 casting body of water of all time. tomcat

Posts: 132 Location: Elkhart, IN | If you go to Eagle Lake you should check out Andy Myers Lodge www.andymyerslodge.com Steve, the owner, will do everything he can to help you get on the fish. A less expensive alternative on Eagle Lake is www.eaglelakelodge.com . I have stayed at both places and like them both. You may want to consider hiring a guide for the first day wherever you go. As you are a guide yourself you know the benefits of shortening the learning curve fishing with someone that knows a lake well. Good luck and enjoy!! Brian
