Hi all,

I've got a meeting a week from Thursday in Wausau. I have to be in Madison on Tuesday which means that I have all day Wednesday to kill and would love some advice on a good lake to fish in the area or up further north. I won't have a boat with me so I need to rent one as well. So what's a good lake I should hit and where I can rent a decent boat for the day? I don't mind traveling an hour or two.

Any advice is appreciated! thanks.
Jeff

The only place that i know that you could rent one would be Lake George Campground, Just east of Rhinelander a few miles. You have to use their boats on that lake, but it is a great lake. Otherwise, Mohawkskin, in Tomahawk, is another great lake, has some shore fishing, and awesome Smallies to boot. If you do fish Mohawkskin from shore, be sure to bring a spinning rod, some jigs, some Kalin Mop-tops and some white twister tails. Also, The entire length of the Wisconsin from Tomahawk to Wausau is awesome shore fishing as well, with great access below the dams. If you choose to fish it, get a Delorme's Wisconsin Atlas. Good Luck!

You have great muskie fishing right in downtown Wausau on Lake Wausau. Good numbers and some dandy fish.

If you have a tow vehicle, the Wausau Gander Mountain rents boats. Lots of water in the area.

Give Tom Keenan, or Jason P, a call at the Wausau Gander. Rent your boat there, and they'll give you some locations to go to. There is some great muskie fishing within minutes. Tell them Shep told you to call, and ask if they have 100 MPH raingear! hehehe

The Eagle River chain is about an hour and a half away, Heckels rents nice boats and the chain is easy to fish with good numbers.
