Posts: 32954 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Heros come from the men AND the ladies strong and not so strong, from the brave, and those not so brave; the difference between a hero and the rest of us is the fact the hero was able and willing to step up and do what needed to be done without concern for personal safety. Thousands have died or suffered permanent injury for our freedom in conflicts around the globe. Without their ultimate sacrifice, we would not be living with the freedoms we have today. Memorial Day, please take off your hat, hum a few bars of taps and then perhaps the Star Spangled Banner, bow your head a moment, and resume casting, because those who have fallen would want it that way. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday!

Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | I am happy I made it back from Desert Storm, despite the Iraqi's best efforts. I still can't believe it was 14 years ago. God Bless all our Vets, our Troops currently serving, and the fallen heros. Freedom will never, ever be free.

Posts: 13 Location: charleston wv | I had several friends die in the Beirut Marine Barracks bombing. One was my roommate while staioned at Quantico Marine Traing Base. I saw him on the 6 oclock news as they arrived in Lebanon. That was more than 20 years ago now . Seems like last week. But is actually more than 7,000 days of freedom brought by the blood of a few good men(and women). These people gave all they had and think of what they missed out on. No kids, or grand kids like I have now. Many left kids with out a dad. All for us. Don't forget them!!! A Merle Haggard song comes to my mind quite often these days. The Fightin Side of Me. I know that there is much discussion about whether we should be in Iraq or not . And I for one admit to not being either smart enough or informed enough to offer an intelligent opinion on the issue. But this I do know . The men and women over there deserve every single persons support that lives under the protection of our government. My point is you can disagree with us being there without downing the country or the fighting men and women that make us safe. I remember walking through airports back in the 70's and having people purposely not look at a man in uniform. I pray our contry never treats our fighting men that way again. Our Veterans deserve better !!! 2nd Batallion/ 4th Marines OOH RAH

Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | I really can't say it any better than msmith did... But I'll add that I'm awfully proud that these fine men and women are on our side. I ride on the coat tails of the freedoms they provide for me every day. I don't want any of them to think that I take that for granted. To those who served, and to those that still serve - THANK YOU. Posts: 1438 | Thank you all for all you've done and all you ever will. No matter the time or the mission our young men and women do what they are asked to do. Thank them for their service and sacrifice whether you agree with their leaders or not. They are only doing their jobs.... I brought a tear to my dad's eye last year when I told him thanks for all he's done. He never got that thanks when he returned from VietNam...a different time I guess. Thank you Dad, Sponge and all for everything you've done to give me the freedoms I have. Thank you to all who are currently serving or ever will for keeping the freedoms I have. Scott

| Sadly, I just learned yesterday that a 21 year old son of a friend was killed by a roadside IED in Iraq. Cpl. Mark Maida of Madison, Wis. He served his 3 year enlistment until October of 2004 but was redeployed to active duty. He is the son of Ray and Diane Maida. Ray is a retired police detective from Madison and Diane is a nurse in Madison. Please keep them and their children in your thoughts and prayers, especially now during Memorial Day. | |||
