Location: The Yahara Chain | Does anybody know where Iowa got their muskies from? I am assumming that they are not native. The pictures that I have scene of the Iowa muskies are all of barred fish that look like Wisconsin fish. Does anybody have a picture of their state record fish? A 52" fish that weighed 50# 6oz.
While I am very interested to see how the Leach Lake fish do in Monona, I don't think that Wisconsin has a genetics problem. Look at all the big fish that have been caught already this year, in both the southern and northern parts of our great state. |

| I may be wrong but I think Iowa's original stock came from Big McKienzie (sp) in N Wisconsin, sometime during the sixties. Don't put much weight in the state record; it probably is not good info. Regardless Iowa's muskies are extremely "stocky" for the most part. |

Location: The Yahara Chain | Hey Hawkeyes
Did Iowa create a brood lake(s) with these Wisconsin muskies?
Are these the same fish they use to stock their lakes, today?
Any info about Iowa's musky program would be appreciated. |

| Some of this info is dated but gives a breif history. I have sent an email to the DNR to ask for more info but have not received a reply. If I get a response I will reply accordingly.
