Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I'm in. I want to kick Trophy's but this year! I think a plaque would be better then prizes. I know a guy, Dogboy, who runs a lazer at work who might be able to make em up???? Say, top 5 finishers??? How about it Dogboy?

Bytor - 5/4/2005 1:20 PM Hockey scoring ? If both teams didn't catch a fish why would anybody deserve a point. A tie should only get a point if both teams caught fish. i'll admit that there's a definite sense to this idea of only getting points if fish are caught. however, in that case it would make more sense (to me) to have the team with the most TOTAL Muskies Inc. points advance from the pool and that takes away from the "match"play feel. basically, i think that: a) if this is going to be ran as head-to-head "matches" it should be scored as a head-to-head match contest (ie., hockey style). points are based on the results of the individual match irregardless of how many fish are caught or what size they are. this is standard pool-play tournament scoring convention and it's used because it decreases the odds of there being a tie for total points at the end of pool play. double-blanks are relatively frequent in matchfishing and if everyone who double-blanks gets the same score as teams that lose, you increase the odds of ties happening. if it makes people feel better, you could score it as -1 for losing, 0 for tie, 1 point for a win. that way only "fish" get points, and the relative differences stay the same... b) if it's going to be ran as a round-robin points event (getting points only for fish caught) then it should be scored entirely that way - the team with the most MInc points advances from the pool. you'd fish on a set day "against" someone, but really you're fishing against your entire pool. this rewards the teams that consistently catch a lot of fish or who catch very big fish rather than the teams that get "lucky" on a given match day. the reason for my thinking is simple: although it makes a certain kind sense to not award points for people who don't catch fish, it makes even less sense to give the same 2 points to the guy who wins his match with a 50" fish as the guy who won his match with a 31" fish (something i did last year). my personal preference is the "hockey" style scoring especially if ties are most often replayed - it's not something that'll happen a lot anyway, so i fully realize that this is kind of a semantic discussion. this scoring style preserves the "any given Sunday" feel of matchplay where how you did on that day is compared to how the other team did on that day. Posts: 132 Location: Elkhart, IN | -do you understand what matchfishing is? I think so. -are you going to compete this year? Yes. -how do you feel about "rematches" after ties? I like the hocky points idea!! -if you were to make it to the championship, could you fish in November? You betcha. -how would you feel about prizes being awarded? No prizes = less cheating, just participating is reward enough. -what would you improve over last year? I would actually fish it this year.

Must you fish different bodies of water or can you camp out on your honey hole all season long? are there match days on weekdays as well as weekends? 2 man teams plus 1 alt?? Live bait???? PM or post or if someone wants to call me (773)742-3826 PUT ME IN COACH!!!!!!!!!! I WANNA PLAY!!!! Thanks Karl

Posts: 956 Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | Okay, I found the match fishing forum, found answers to my questions. and I will be signing up on the 18th. Cant wait. I like the idea of 0 fish = 0 pts in a tie, ties w/fish =1 pt , 2 pts for the win. A win is a win in match play regardless if you win with a 30"er or 65"er. pts are used then to break ties to advance from pool play. Karl Edited by KARLOUTDOORS 5/8/2005 2:10 AM
