Posts: 1516 | I heard from Culvers today and they advise their walleye were from Canada. The lady I talked to didn't know if they were from LOTW or which lake or provience(selling?) Anyway I suggest we all send an e-mail to Culvers and ask them to STOP selling walleye. Cause a gill net can not tell the difference between a walleye and a Muskie,Northern or Smallmouth Bass.

I saw this post elsewhere too. If we don't know if these are LOTW gill netted walleyes, why jump the gun and send a bunch of emails to people that may have done nothing wrong????? Just my .2 cents! MuskyTom

Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | Here's were many of the fillets for various species originate from. http://www.freshwaterfish.com/english.htm If you look at the web site you see that these fish can be originating from any number of lakes in Canada. Lake Winnipeg is a very large supplier of commercially (legally) caught fish. I don't know for sure, but I would guess that this firm would also buy fish from the LOTWs. The main problem with gill netting is not eliminating it, but regulating it, with good science and then enforcing those regulations. Doug Johnson

Posts: 1516 | I told Culvers I would post their response to my question regarding where they got their walleye. They advised it comes from several lakes in Manitoba. Not LOTW or any lake in the US. They also said their supplier follows all the rules which I believe to be true. I still don't like gill nets.

Posts: 305 Location: Illinois | I've got a dilemna. I like Walleye. I like Culvers. I like the taste of walleye. I don't have the gumption of fishing for the wet socks. I don't know anyone who will fish walleye for me and give them to me. It seems the lakes are doing ok in Canada for the most part. Maybe the guys who have studied the impact of gill netting and set the limits know what they're doing. I respect you're opinion but I like fish and when I buy it from the store I really don't ask where it came from. Leave my Culvers alone bro. p.s. Just kidding , except the Culvers thing.

Posts: 244 Location: Mallard Island Lake Vermilion MN | Doubt any of the junk burger places or chow huts sell real walleye filets. Bet it is all ZANDER! Top buck for a sub par filet. Been done for a while now. Just hunt and peck around the net and you will no doubt find ZANDER on the case lables.
