The ice out is headed North. Right now There is open water on many lakes in the nw suburbs. Temps all week should be in the 40's with lows at or above freezing. 2 weeks? What do you think? Any reports from the guys who live near the chain? Can't wait.

I was just up at my buddy Dave's place on Marie, Sat. They were still ice fishing it! Some of the channels are open ,some aren't. I was hoping to be out for good Friday, but I think that might be just a little too soon. My guess is Friday after Good Friday!

HJ, I was just talking about this last night. I need to hit some water. I take full responsibility for this, as it is waiting for me to get my boat tuned up. Well, rest asured, it is going in this week, so ice out should follow shortly there after.

I Pass by a quary on the way to work and it is still mostly frozen, usually the Quary opens the same time as the chain, the Ice does seem to be receeding slowly from the shores and is turning Dark so it won't be long

Guys were still out ice fishing on Sunday 3/20. The channel between Marie & Channel had thin, but new, ice on it this morning & if the weather report I saw today holds true it's probably going to be around for a week or two more....bummer.

The South Quary that I pass is about 50% open However the North Quary ( Across the street) is still 98% iced up, it is much deeper than the South Quary but the Ice is getting really dark it won't be long

Okay, since we are on the subject and can't fish it yet, which one of you wants to give me some tips on fishing Marie???? What do you look for. I haven't spent too much time on Marie, and have a good idea of what to look for (I think), but I spend most of my time on Channel, and Katherine. Some of the down river lakes as well, but Marie for some reason, I seem to not see any fish, or get action on. If you want, shoot me an email, or pm, orrrrr you don't even have to respond.

I only fish the chain a few times in the spring, and occasionally in the fall if I am really desperate.

Joel, I have had my best luck on Marie casting Cranks on the deep weed edge on the South East Corner, There may be better spots but that corner has the least amount of traffic

There are Two piggies that I am aware of on Silver that we need to find again this year Hopefully one of us will get a hook into them

I like to fish the chain when the wind is cranking in the fall 25mph sustained is fine with me.. Spring has been good to us on Marie trolling cranks. We troll the whole lake but near the points are the best producers (May-June) 2.5mph. Catherine is my favorite, there is 100yds of weeds on the SE side that I concentrate on. It gets boring working 100yds over and over but I've seen, caught and felt a few of these girls and there are four footers around. I fish the chain April-June and Oct-Dec. Other then that time frame forget about it RETARD VILLE!

LOL
Wow and people actually eat fish out of there.
The 50 I got out of there 2 years ago had cataracts on both eyes. Maybe they weren't cataracts but tiny rubbers stuck on her eyes. Just thinking out loud.

I walked out on Marie last night. Still a decent amount of ice in the shallow areas w/ no current, but I wasn't about to venture much further out. Had to deal with the uncles retreiver falling through the other day. If an eighty pound dog broke through my fat a@# is staying over 3-4 feet

Okay, so who all is scoring fish out there. I was hoping to be on the water already, but I am selling the musky sled, and picking up a new ride for this season.
Fill me in. Not sure when I am going to be able to hit the drink.

Unfortunately, this means, I can't fish the FRV tourney, but at least I get a new boat.

I was out on the toilet today with the wife. Spent a lot of time tooling around in the new ride and eating cheeseburgers at Cap'n Curts. Did manage to get some trolling time in on Pistakee and Petite but not even a rip. The chain is VERY SHALLOW right now so be careful. I ran into the muck and nearly got the boat stuck on Fox just south of Beer Can bridge in the no wake channel where it should be passable without problem. I would say judging by the former marks on the bridges and sea walls that the system is down 2-3ft right now.

The fyke nets were out for walleyes so I imagine musky netting will start Monday next week. We found water in shallow out of the wind areas as high as 57-59 with main lakes at 53.
