Location: Holly, MI		My six year old found out how hard it was for him to lift a 23 pound fish.
We went to the river in town to see if the carp were in .. And they WERE!
Very inactive, sluggish but didn't change the weight when a kid tries to lift a fish half his weight.
We had fun even though there was snow on the ground and ice flows in the river.
The third saturday in June feels like an eternity away for the St Clair opener. : (


That is an ultra light that I made out of a St Croix blank for small stream brookies and browns. 10 lb Power Pro with a 6 lb floro leader. Light tackle can be fun.

CPR-C (catch and release carp!)
Who can tell me how old this fish is? (I didn't get a length)

That buglemouth bass is older then your son! Way cool, I bet even in the cold water she was a river battler! C`mon spill the bait he was using! I am going sunday for some practice too!

Location: Oregon		That's great! Carp are awesome fish!

I would guess that fish is quite old, particularly given the long winters and thus reduced growth periods you guys deal with out there. I worked on a water quality study here in Oregon a number of years ago and tissue from sacrificed carp and other species were tested for pollutants. The fish were also aged as part of this effort through scale analysis.

The largest of the carp included in the study were perhaps 10 pounds and several were at or very near 20 years of age.
